The next crew member on Canonball’s and my list is the Constructicon with the coolest name. Bonecrusher served as the team’s demolitions specialist. A brute with an eye for perfect destruction, he could be counted on to up the intimidation factor whenever encountered. As far as a memorable part of the crew… not so much. Like most Decepticons, his speaking roles were mostly the usual ‘Con dumb-bruiser bravado. He did help convince Hoist and Grapple to stupidly betray the Autobots, though. His bio:
Rubble-strewn wasteland is his idea of beautiful landscape. His wild ways create fear and terror. As vehicle, at 30mph. Exerts 800,000psi… has short-range concussion bomb launcher. As robot, carries laser pistol. As left arm module, combines with fellow Constructicons to form giant robot “Devastator”.
Serving as Devastator’s left arm, he shares some design traits with Scavenger. He also nails his G1 bot and vehicle modes very convincingly. In vehicle mode, he forms nearly the same classic bulldozer as his inspiration, with the only difference to my eye being the change to a closed cab. Like the original, he has the day-glow treads, and while that is accurate to both toy and cartoon… I don’t like em. Scavenger at least traded his in for purple, which is still not a very standard color for treads, but it beats green. In pure toy sense, though, no problems. He rolls on some hidden wheels and has a little articulation in the trough arm, owing mostly to the transformation. Again, decent size, if not real world accurate, and a good faithful interpretation of the Diaclone toy.
Bot mode is a lot like Scavenger as well. both use the same style legs, and both have similar transformations, though Bonecrusher shifts a little more mass. Articulation is nearly the same, with some changes in tolerance. On mine, his universal joints are a bit tighter, but the hip joint connections tend to come apart on me. I also wish his shovel could tab into the chest more securely, but that one’s not a biggie.
Thanks to his boxy chest, he appears more broad than most of his brothers, and if there really is someone out there who bought Devastator to display individually, Bonecrusher helps keep the Constructicons the most diverse and varied size and shaped combiners of them all. He can also use his arm attachment as a rocket pod, and while he can hold it better, it’s still a little clunky for his use.
Bonecrusher joins his fellow arm in being one of the more fun members of the crew in his separate mode. My only nits would be that it would be nice if he locked together a little more securely in bot mode, and I just can’t get past the green treads. Check out his Legends game card art — he looks badass as hell, and he has black treads. It could work.
Here are Canonball’s thoughts on Bonecrusher and a transformation demonstration:
