We saw the teaser a few days ago, but with the kick-off of the Kyarahobi 2015 show Bandai reveals the full Boba Fett model figure in all it’s The Empire Strikes Back glory.
First off, let me say I have absolutely no problem with the Hasbro Black Series Fett. It looks great, it has all the standard articulation, and it just looks fantastic on the shelf. But if I’ve learned anything from putting together these Bandai model kits, it’s that nine times out of ten I like the models even more. BS Fett’s hips were a little impaired by the stiff pouches hanging from the belt and I’m not a huge fan of soft goods. The kit seems to remedy those two slight hiccups. Hopefully.
The plastic cape looks to be on a hinge, and although it’s hard to tell, the pouches more than likely are too. Going by past kits we’ll probably get more range of motion in the elbows, giving the figure a more relaxed look for a two handed gun grip pose. Here’s a pic of the Black Series Fett in nearly the same pose from Benty’s review a couple of years ago.
The major rub with the Bandai kit, besides scrawny ankles, will most likely be weathering. We’ve seen the same with R2 and the Scout Trooper, as well as the soon-to-be-released Sandtrooper. They are just too clean because of the parts being molded in the correct colors and then including stickers for detail. Are all the silver scuffs going to be decals? I can see the red around the visor being one with the silver detail but the rest is most likely paint. But at the end of the day it is a model. Models are meant to be tweaked with paint.
I haven’t seen any pre-orders up yet but they should be hitting very soon if the figure is going to be released in a month.
Now, how long before we see a Return of the Jedi version? From any company?
