SDCC 2015: Sideshow

SDCC2015 Sideshow Marvel_headlineI love the products at Sideshow Toys, but I don’t want to own any of them. I can appreciate the quality, the artistry, everything, but they just aren’t my thing. I do, however, love to go take a look at what they have once a year at San Diego Comic-Con. I call it my annual trip to the Sideshow Toys museum.

This year the museum felt extra arty with a large display of customized 1/6th scale R2-D2 figures. The variety of talent on display was humbling. I have to hand it to anyone who chops up a $150 toy.

The big news in Star Wars was definitely the extra large Tie Fighter and Falcon cockpit displays. The lights on these puppies really brings the sense of reality in to these items for me.

The Marvel Hot Toys were astounding as usual, but I also really enjoyed the realistic comic take of the Sideshow Deadpool, Punisher and Wolverine.

The coolest statue I saw was the Red Sonja. The detail on this massive piece is stunning and the paint is so, so good. Look at that bloody sword and all the snake guts!

It’s a good year for Michael Keaton sculpts between this Bats and the Beetleguise.

It was nice to see a new take on He-Man and Skeletor as well. The iconography on He-Man is all over the place, but I enjoy the little details on Skeletor like the Hordak and snake combo belt buckle.
