Check out some additional pictures from Mattel’s booth at SDCC 2015 Preview Night. Included are looks at MOTUC and DC. The big news for me is the massive and cool Talon Fighter and the return of 6 inch scale to the Mattel DC lines.
The MOTUC display was surprisingly full of new stuff, basically showing off the line through the end of the year. While there weren’t a lot of surprises, everything looked pretty good for the most part. I was especially impressed with the detailed sculpt on Saurod and his massive size. He seemed really big.
Dare is a figure I can’t say I have been looking forward too, but the inclusion of a different harness than the Silver NA He-Man does up the appeal on this guy. Looks like we get a new version of the power-sword with him as well.
The real star of the booth for me is, of course, the Talon Fighter. This thing is MASSIVE and has all the great sculpted detail you’ve come to expect from the MOTUC vehicles. It’s a thing of beauty for sure. It’s so large that guys with me at the booth initially thought it was for the Giant-Size Zodac.
Mattel had the packaged version of the Batman ’66 accessory set and it’s also looking really nice. I’m looking forward to grabbing one.
Another neat bit of news was the return to 6 inch scale with the DC Multiverse line. A representative told us at the show that it would be a 6 figure wave with a collect and connect. He said that the line would be about movie/TV versions of characters mixed with comic specific versions of DC mainstays. He also said this wave would include TV’s Arrow and a “Black” Superman from the comics.
The DC Multiverse line looks to also include what we used to see branded as “Movie Masters” in the six inch scale. They had some 2-Ups on hand and they looked to me to be the work of the Four Horsemen, though I didn’t confirm that. The sculpt on Wonder Woman and the Armored Bats looked especially impressive in person. The regular Batman looked a lot like a better painted version of what’s in the SDCC exclusive 2-pack. The sculpt is nice, but the texture looks a little out of scale on the mask to me.
I thought it was interesting that the basic figures seemed to in 6 inch scale as well. Mattel also had lots of props scattered around their booth including some Batman gear and the new Ghostbusters Proton Pack.
