MotUC Heads: Skulls

MOTUCHeads-Skulls-Review-header

The team at MotUC Heads have brought a lot of new things to life for your Masters of the Universe Classics collection. This time though, they bring you death. Glorious, horrible, and beautiful DEATH.

If you saw our most recent MotUC Heads feature, you know that guys like Felinor, The Grinch and even frikkin’ ALF have been brought to life (well, action figure life anyway) in absolutely stunning fashion. However, all of those cool new things were only part of the some of the newest offerings.

That’s right, stark death has been added as well in this grotesquely awesome collection of skulls. Skull, yes, skull of all shapes and sizes, some you will know right away, others you might be meeting for the first time. Ten new faces of death can be placed on any standard MOTUC body, so you can freshly cursed takes on old favorites, or scary new characters that our own beloved bone face, Skeletor, might be looking to recruit to his cause. Let’s join him as he meets some of the amazing dead.

SKULL

Thinking of building an entire army of skeletons for Skeletor to command? Well, this is going to get you off to a great start because, while it might seem like a simple concept, there is something great about getting a clean, realistic skull for your Classics collection. This looks to be a take on the Grayskull elevator skull, but with a fantastic new paint scheme that will help you army build the undead. Or, maybe you are looking for a new take on Skeletor? This will have you covered as well.

HALF SKULL

Being a skeleton is hard enough, always keeping track of the hinged jaw has got to be a real challenge. Here is a chance to add some diversity with a different shape to a standard skull, and you can leave it as is, or maybe you can find something horrible to put in place of this jaw. Now, this looks to be a pretty generic skull, but, if you think about it, this could easily be what is left of Trap Jaw after his battle with Skeletor. You know, if Tri-Klops did go and play Dr. Frankenstein with him.

HORDAK

A chilling look in to the future? Perhaps Skeletor will stand victorious over the dead body of his former mentor and ascend to the most power despot in the universe. This is the first of a few of these skulls that capture a familiar character, and it has been done very well. I love this as a study of what is made of actual bone on Hordak’s skull, and what might be cartilage or otherwise. As you can see, the facial protrusions are gone, as are the ears, left behind after years of decay.

MOHAWK SKULL

Can you show us your Metal face? Can you show us what is under your Metal face? Well, as Metal as you may be, you don’t have a skull to show off like this one. This is one of those things that helps to make MOTU more and more badass. Can you imagine He-Man meeting this guy? You better be able to because when you are He-Man, you have to deal with some terrible s*$#. I think this one looks best on the Demo-Man body, but something this bad ass can work anywhere.

RAKKASHIAN

If you have been following MotUC Heads for awhile, you know that they have done a series of Rakkashian (Mer-Man’s people) pieces, including the fantastic King Gwaarkk from the old German Audio Plays. I love that figure and I almost had to do a double take when I saw this because I was sad that this might be the benevolent old King, after Mer-Man showed his true colors and usurped the kingdom. Masters can be a scary place, man.

CLAWFUL

Again, MotUC Heads had a take on the 200x Clawful head awhile back, so if you are responsible for bringing something to life, you need to be prepared to kill it! This is a perfect take on the endoskeleton of a presumable exoskeleton-outfilled being, but if you work for Skeletor, you better be ready to be recreated in his image if you piss him off. The 200x head pack is coming later this year, so with this, Clawful is getting a lot of love this year.

SNAKE SKULL

You just knew this was going to have to happen, right? So, I see this as being the start of an insane zombie snake army after they were all killed by Orko using the Spell of Separation. Now, maybe Hssss survived and brought his subject back to undead status, or maybe Skeletor decided that the indentured un-dead will help him take Castle Grayskull. Either way, this is a great piece.

ARACHNID

So, I think this is probably the creepiest piece in the entire assortment. This is very much a spider “skull” to me, and I know that your first impulse might be to pop this on the Webstor body, but I am not so sure that will do it justice. I stumbled with this one just a bit because it is so intimidating, you need a good place to put it. Then I looked at the Unnamed One and realized I might be able to get two birds with one stone. His little body is creepy on its own, but now he has an unmasked head worthy of sheer horror.

AVIAN SKULL

Man, is my mind racing with how I can kit bash this head with a MOTUC body and those bone wings from the Four Horsemen’s Gothitropolis Ravens line. This has a vulture quality to it, which is perfect for a skull to bring out the scavenger notion of carrion fowl. If you want to get really dark, this could be a new character that feasts on the bodies of the dead of Eternia. Once battle fields have fallen quiet, the true horror an begin. Is your He-Man getting dark enough yet?

MER-MAN

Gah! This one is awesome and terrible all at the same time. See, this is a great recreation, but it hurts to see my favorite MOTU character stripped bare to his deceased form. If you follow the Classics bios (and buy into the canon) this is what happens to Mer-Man after Mermista is done with him. Oy vey! I am a collector of all things Mer-Man, though, so I want to make this one special. If you have any ideas on how I can customize an un-dead Mer-Man with this head, please sound off below!

How cool are these? MotUC Heads have done it again, and this fresh take on a not so fresh concept has been realized beautifully. There are so many possibilities with these skulls and with the variety being offered, there is definitely something for everyone. I have really been enjoying the savage side of MOTU as of late, and these babies are about as savage as you can get. Head on over the MotUC Heads Facebook page and order some up, you will not be disappointed.
