DC Collectibles line of figures based on CW’s über popular show, Arrow, continues into 2015 with…Canary. You’ll note the lack of “black” or even the “the” in that Canary. You’ll also note that this is the original Canary, Sara Lance. Not her “wannabe” sister, Laurel. Not sure any of that means anything, but I just felt like pointing it out here.
Anyway, Canary is sculpted by the fine folks at Gentle Giant Studios and she is one realistic figure. Especially when it comes to her eyes. There’s something fairly real about her eyes that most figures miss the mark on.
Canary also has a nice range of articulation; her arms move and twist from the shoulder to the wrist. She also has a swivel joint in the chestal region, making her upper body poses that much more dynamic.
Another nice little touch is the back of her jacket. They sculpted the cut out of it, so you can actually see her back a little. It’s those little attentions to detail that really matter, like the buttons on the back of her corset. Or the buckles on her boots and sleeves of her jacket.
I’m not too sure about the color scheme of her costume, though. I thought her jacket and pants were a little more black than they are on the figure. The colors, though, come off a dark grey, almost a fatigued blue. Her corset, too. I know that was a lot darker in the show. And I’m pretty sure it wasn’t an olive green, either. It doesn’t ruin the figure, by any means…but, I’m curious why the color changes.
The other thing I’m not real crazy about is her hair. Actually, the sculpt of it is fine, but it’s the color that’s bothersome. Specifically, I think it’s the “lowlights” of her hair (yea…i just used the word “lowlights” in a toy review). The dark color in her hair makes it look dirty or something. I know this is coming off all weird and nitpicky of me, but I say to you: judge for thyself:
And, of course, with the molded hair, her head doesn’t turn very well. At all, really. But, that swivel joint in her chest kinda of compensates for the lack of head movement.
Canary comes packed with a staff and Canary Cry/sonic bomb; a couple of nice accessories. All in all it’s a fairly realistic figure and nice interpretation of Sara Lance’s Canary. She retails for $24.99, and if you’re a fan of Arrow, there’s no real reason not to get her.
Don’t forget to check out the latest episode of the Almost Internet Famous Internet Show. We’re talking another DC lady…Poison Ivy.
