Jim Pansen Creations: Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_01The biggest complaint about the Masters of the Universe Classics line has to be the “subscription only” model.  It works great for guys like me who want it all, but not so great for people who don’t care for every character.  Even fanatics for MOTU can feel “stuck” with the ooccasional figure.  Fortunately, Jim Pansen Creations has an interesting solution for those figures you don’t love — make them into somebody else!

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_10I personally love Plundor and Demo-Man, but there are certain fans who don’t love the idea of a giant, evil cartoon bunny wielding blaster rifles and axes.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_11I’d be lying if I said I could understand those people, but I know they exist.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_12I’ve heard fewer complaints about the concept character Demo-Man, but I know there were some out there not enthused about the guy.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_13For those fans, one of these War-Hog heads might be just the trick to make these outlier figures more palatable to your collection.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_16They have a great, monstrous look that I feel fits in well with the more barbarian side of the MOTU design spectrum.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_17The scar looks wicked and the teeth look appropriately disgusting.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_18These guys could be goblins or orcs of some kind or maybe even Pig-Boy from the ’87 movie all grown up — it’s up to your imagination.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_19The heads pop on the respective bodies easily.  Since I’m perfectly happy with Plundor and Demo-Man, I’m thinking I’ll use these as a base for new custom characters.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_02Dragon Blaster Skeletor is one of the few MOTUC figures that I was not happy with.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_03I didn’t love the way the dragon was executed and felt like the giant-teeth design was too much of a departure from the classic artwork and toy.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_14 Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_15I think the biggest issues for me were that he didn’t have an open mouth and the head of the dragon didn’t get much movement.

Jim Pansen Creations addresses both those issues with this sculpt. The Dragon Blaster head is a real thing of beauty that matches some of the classic artwork to a T and has a great snarling maw.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_20The head was drilled out so that it can be posed in a couple of different ways and gets a little more movement than the original figure had.

Jim Pansen Dragon Blaster and War-Hogs_21The paint is outstanding and matches the original figure well.
