Fwooshers! Rejoice! It’s a figma kinda month this month! Not only do we have a Terraformar review and Goro, but we have Motoko and Guyver in the pipeline this month as well. Goro is the most recent in the roster of figures that I’ll be tackling this month, and he’s worth every penny.

Goro is the main character from the manga Lonely Gourmet, which is about a restaurant critic. Yes, a food critic. I’ve yet to read this manga, but I love the fact figma went out on a limb and tackled this character. Since I know nothing about the character or the manga, I can’t tell you about my love affair for Goro. Instead, I’ll let you in on why I bought this figure.

It’s the suit. It’s the plain John Doe look of the figure. He’s no muscle-bound superhero; he’s nothing special, just one of us. And it’s perfect! There are so many possibilities! Put him in with your Marvel Legends or DC Universe Classics or other figma lines. Maybe he’s Agent Coulson, or, better yet, Jimmy Woo. Yeah, Jimmy Woo — that might work perfectly. He can be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent or he could be the leader of the Agents of Atlas. Pair him up with the Uranian, Gorilla Man, M-11, Namora, and Venus — the fun that you could have. With the new pistol holding hands from figma and the Takara Tomy guns, you could easily arm Goro to lead any team. I think I had a geekgasm.

The figure’s look is a rather simple suit, so there’s no complexity in this sculpt in that there are no muscles, demonic detailing, or robot technology that has to be shown. The sculpt needs to reflect a chap in a decent suit, and it does! Better than Professor X, better than Clark Kent, Goro here might be the best suited action figure that I’ve seen. Outside of Golgo13, I think. I regretfully skipped Golgo (oh the pain still cuts deep).

I love the head sculpt. I’m certain it’s a straight shot of Goro from the manga, but it’s just generic enough that it could be anyone. Like I said, Coulson? Woo? Dad?

figma’s articulation is factory perfect. Consisting of some 16 joints, the figure is extremely poseable and is a ton of fun to play with. I was a bit concerned with the how the shape of the suit and the joints would interact with each other, and I’m damn impressed about how smoothly everything looks. Sure, there are breaks in the poses, but nothing that stands out as horrible. In fact, I’m pleasantly surprised.

The sculpt and joint aesthetic on figma figures do take some getting used to, but if can overcome the sometimes bulbous joints, you’ll find there is a fantastic toy in each offering.

Goro comes with the usual assortment of extra hands, a base, extra faces, and some extra pieces. One of the hands has chopsticks for eating the rice from the rice bowl, and there’s a hand with a cigarette in it and an extra coat. The extra coat allows you to pose him with the “hand in my pocket” look that so many suit-wearing people seem to pose in. It’s a great addition to the figure and, well, kinda makes him even cooler.

It’s no secret, I’m loving these figma releases of late. The universe that is being created on my shelves with them is really fun. This figure is available at:
