The Sunday procrastination continues! But I went and hunted down a lot of pretty robot pictures for you guys. I have a soft spot for this kind of thing even though I can’t afford it most of the time. Transformers were a staple in my house when I was a kid. Every morning before school was half an episode during the Bozo show out of Chicago. Then my mom would check us out of school thirty minutes early every day to catch both Transformers and Masters of the Universe. Easy there hall monitors, back then that wasn’t a punishable offense. Plus now that I’m an adult and a parent I could see the appealing urge to avoid the after school traffic. See? Two birds, one stone. My mom was a genius. It was a happy hour, both for me and my brother while glued to the TV and for her with us out of her hair. And this is Happy Hour!
I am so clever.
Third party Transformer creators Gigapower showed scale comparison shots of their upcoming Dinobot Snarl! I mean, not-Snarl!
Whoa, that’s just a big heap of awesome. I can see how some posters are thinking it’s too big, especially if it’s that much bigger than Masterpiece Grimlock, but if Gigapower is going to make their own Grimlock I can’t see the whole team being anything but amazing. I also can’t see all five together costing less than a cool grand.
Talk is ramping up for the Acid Rain line of 3 and 3/4 inch figures, so I figured I’d collect a bunch of pictures to show off!
I’m not an expert as I’m just finding out about this line, but it seems Acid Rain is the brain child of Kit Lau. The pilot figures themselves look to be amazingly articulated and the vehicles change into robots. While the Fwoosh front page doesn’t get a lot of 3.75″ love these caught my eye. To me they seem to be a smaller scale in the style of 3A and that’s definitely not a bad thing.
You can find out more on Lau’s blog and the Acid Rain Facebook fan page, where Lau also posts.
BigBadToyStore also has some of these for preorder. A little pricey but they look to be worth it.
Assemblage is a line of custom robots made by Fwoosh forum poster rupertvalero. A couple of years ago he was stationed in Afghanistan and spent his free time making these out of items easily available to him while there.
As time went on he started weathering his customs in the style of 3A, while still using everyday household items with a mixture of Lego pieces.
Now? Now he’s just showing off. Fantastic weathering, lots and lots of tidbits, still making cans and lids and deodorant casings unrecognizable. Essentially fusing the ordinary into something extraordinary.
And then there’s this…

Yup. That’s the Bozo Show for you young bucks. That’s what we used to have to sit through to get to 15 minutes of a Transformers episode in the morning. No DVR. No rewind, no fast forward. If you missed it you were out of luck.
Happy Hour’s over!
