Did you know that Batman can fly? Okay, I think a million comic book fans heads just about exploded, but it’s true — he can! He can thanks to The Bridge Direct and their brand new Flying Heroes line. Yep, this holiday season is going to be an awful lot of fun for kids who find these figures as presents for their celebrated winter holiday. Christmas? Chanukah? Kwanzaa? Any way you slice it and any holiday you celebrate, getting a Batman that can fly is just awesome fun. FLIGHT IS MIGHT!
I know, this might be a little outside of our usual wheelhouse, but I am all about expanding my horizons, and in this VERY serious business of online action figure collecting, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that toys are supposed to be FUN! So let me tell you a little bit about fun. The Bridge Direct has taken the relatively simple concept of sending toys into the wild blue yonder and made it easy and terribly entertaining. The Flying Heroes toys include a flying character figure and a launcher in each package, and as soon as you open it, you are ready to go. No batteries, no assembly, nothing is required to get these toys going, and that is certainly refreshing.
Essentially, you place the flying figure on the stand, hold the launcher, pull the ripcord and watch Batman take a trip into the sky. The Batman figure is lightweight and his arms have tough foam fins to help maximize his flight time. I know, it is such a simple concept, but it can make for hours of fun, and like I said, flying Batman = awesome!
I am actually quite surprised just how high the figure can go, and the hang time is better than expected as well. There is no real art or skill to it, so kids of all ages can open these things and be looking to the skies in no time. My 22-month-old daughter laughs and claps every time I have sent Bats a-flutter, and my friend’s 3-year-old son could not get enough of this toy when he came over last night. I was waiting for him to come by to see his reaction before I posted this feature, and he absolutely loved it. I did learn that I really did not have to wait so long, though, because the teenage boys across the street saw what we were up to and wanted to come and play. Needless to say, I have been having a ball outside with this thing for a couple of weeks now, so from 22 months to 32 years, I have had a first-hand account of kids of all ages having a great time with this toy. Batman is not the only DC character in this assortment, so if you like a more traditional flying hero, Superman will fit the bill just fine. The Flying Heroes are exclusive to Target and at $14.99, you really cannot go wrong with these. So if you have a kid or three in your life and you need a fun and inexpensive gift this holiday season, I would really recommend these. And if you want to get one for yourself too, go ahead, I am not at all ashamed to tell you that you will have a great time as well!
