Top 5 – Marvel Legends, Movie Legends, Classics – Human Torch

Before we get started, this top-5 is purely biased towards a specific sculpt and completely biased towards the figures that this author likes. But let’s use these top-5 articles this year as a baseline for future top-5s. This specific one covers the Human Torch, or Johnny Storm, of the Fantastic Four. There have been quite a few figures of old Torch over the years in Marvel Legends, Fantastic Four Classics, and Marvel Movie lines. Yeah, Torch has his fair share of action figures — nothing better than selling fire-engulfed humans in the toy aisles.

Here goes, after much deliberation, internal debate, and, finally, after much indecisiveness, the Fwoosh gives you the Top-5 Human Torch figures made (so far)!

5. Human Torch (Supernova): Hasbro Marvel Legends Ares Wave (2008)

This is a great figure. Clear plastic to the crisp, good paint and it’s a decent sculpt. This is a good, solid figure and, of course, we always love figures that take on a specific action or characteristic. Like Torch’s ability to go super-duper hot. At least that’s what I think this figure is supposed to represent, and if doesn’t, then too bad. In MY little Marvel Universe it does.

4. Human Torch: Hasbro Marvel Legends 2-Packs Series 2 (2010)

Hmmm… I seem to see a theme here. Isn’t this the same sculpt as the one above? You got me. It is. BUT — this is the Human Torch in a kind of human state sporting that classic blue and black costume. Plus, he’s got a snazzy head-sculpt. But really, this is on the list since it’s flame-down Johnny Storm with the classic costume.

3. Flame-On Human Torch: Toy Biz Fantastic Four Movie Line Series 1 (2005)

This is a great figure! It has all the good articulation and proportions, not to mention rocker ankles! And the Jolly-Rancher orange is a sight to behold. This figure really became a benchmark for how Human Torch action figures should be made.

2. Human Torch: Toy Biz Marvel Legends Series 2 (2002)

The Torch that started it all. While this figure did not achieve Jolly-Rancher orange immortality, it was the first Marvel Legends Human Torch and clearly deserves a top spot on this list. This figure uses a version of the Spider-Man Classics figures that were kind of “pre-Marvel Legends” Marvel Legends. This is still one of my favorite figures and one that will remain in my collection forever. I use it as a ’60s version of the Human Torch.

1. Human Torch: Hasbro Marvel Legends Ares Wave (2008)

To date, this is my favorite Human Torch figure. This thing is absolutely fantastic, and, yes, it does use that Ronan series Human Torch body that I am enamored with. I love the semi-translucent Jolly-Rancher orange of this figure; everything screams “Human Torch” on this figure. Definitely deserving of the number-one spot on this list.
