There is no such thing as having enough Brambles. ThreeA would agree with that sentiment, it seems, and it’s difficult to argue the contrary. The Bramble MK2 was the first robot released in the World War Robots Portable line, and since its debut, the Bramble has been released over the years in a variety of colorways and in a variety of formats: singles, multi-packs, exclusives, etc. This past month Ashley Wood and ThreeA have released a new variation of the Bramble—the MK3 Heavy Bramble—through various online retailers like Big Bad Toy Store and Sideshow, giving fans the opportunity to build up their squads with this formidable addition to the ranks. I picked up the JEA Heavy Bramble, for a start, and he is a welcome addition to my JEA ranks. More after the jump!
The Heavy Bramble has proportions similar to that of a gorilla—small legs; a bulky torso; and long, powerful-looking arms. This is a bit of a departure from the previous Brambles that had slimmer arms, and this Bramble also sports just one red cycloptic eye. It’s hard to look at him and see sympathy or mercy in that eye. He’s a killing machine and that one red eye reflects that purpose He has all the poseability and articulation one would expect from a WWRp ‘bot, so there aren’t any big surprises, or disappointments, in that department.

And then there’s the gun. It is a BFG the likes of which would make even Megatron jealous. It is an imposing and intimidating rocket launcher that looks like it could take out whole cities. This weapon definitely qualifies the Heavy Bramble as the heavy-artillery muscle of the squad. The rear flaps of the rocket launcher do not move at all despite looking as though they should, so if I had a nit with this figure at all, that would be it, really.

The paint apps, particularly the weathering, look very convincing on this ‘bot. Sometimes the weathering on a WWRp ‘bot can look rather “spongy,” as is the case with my Euro Bramble and my MK3 Bertie, but here it looks as it should—like a ‘bot that’s been through its share of warfare and is still kicking around, waiting to raise some more hell.

The packaging is pretty standard: a brown shipper box indicating which of the colorways is contained within, and a proper “art” box featuring an Ashley Wood painting showcasing the Heavy Bramble. These boxes are impossible to throw away because of the great artwork, and as a result, a good chunk of our place is starting to look like the back of a UPS truck.

I missed out on the first JEA Bramble, the MK2 with the Gatling gun, but this guy fills that hole nicely. He’s a great addition to my JEA squad, and I can’t help but entertain the notion of picking up other colorways while they’re still available.

The Heavy Bramble can be purchased in a variety of colorways from Big Bad Toy Store and Sideshow Collectables for $64.99 a pop.
