Toy Fair 2012 – Hasbro Marvel

Hasbro held their annual Toy Fair fan preview today in New York.  I’m sorry to tell you that there weren’t a great deal of new reveals in the Marvel realm.

I’m sure you were all wanting to know the rest of the lineup for Legends wave 3, including the build-a-figure. But it was not to be. They did announce that a modern Mystique will join the previously announced USAgent, Blade, and Punisher. The design for Mystique, which they showed only in the slide presentation, was based on the costume below. For the rest of the wave, you’ll just have to wait until San Diego Comic Con.

The other big reveal for Marvel Legends was Hyperion of the Squadron Supreme. Only shown in the slide presentation as an unpainted prototype, they did not reveal how or when he would be released. I thought it was an exciting choice of a character, but one word of caution: At last year’s fan event, they showed an unpainted prototype for an Ultimate Hawkeye Marvel Legends figure, which we never heard anything about again. So don’t be disappointed if Hyperion remains in a parallel Earth for some time.

For the smaller scale Marvel Universe line, there were also limited reveals.  Apart from displaying a few figures that had been previously announced, but not seen in finished form, an Inhumans 3 pack was officially announced (it had been teased at NYCC) which will include Black Bolt, Medusa, and Karnak.  That would be the very first figure of Karnak ever!  Another first time ever figure, Death’s Head, was announced. They did not want to say at this time whether he would be single carded or part of a multi-pack.  Perhaps the biggest MU reveal was the Amazing Bag-Man version of Spider-Man, which will be a variant edition of the MU Future Force Spider-Man. An additional MU Spider-Man, the Ultimate version, was revealed and will  execute with Peter Parker and Miles Morales as variants.

We’ve already seen most of the 4″ Avengers movie figures (some are on store shelves now) but they did show the 3-foot long SHIELD Helicarrier (which Brand Manager Vicky Stratford was proud to point out was the largest ever Marvel vehicle execution), and the movie Quinjet that had been previously revealed last week.

For Fwoosh pics, head over to our gallery here.  We also should be adding more company photos from Hasbro, as they come to us.

I do wish I had more breaking news to report, but Hasbro feels there is more collector and fan exposure at SDCC, and they’re keen to hold some big reveals back for July.  I can tell you that there may be something big to look forward to then.
