April 2011 ThreeA Toys offered up some figure packs for order, the 2 Pack Jungle and the 3 Pack Swingers set. The 3 pack includes Kuan it Plume, Gebi de Plume and The Commando Dropcloth. All figure are portable scale or 1/12 – 6 inch and all three characters are being produced for the for the first time as portables. Kuan and Gebi both made appearances in the 12 inch scale. These are character from the World War Robot universe that Ashley Wood is continually developing.
I reviewed Blanc de Plume some time ago as part of the 3×3 Portable Large Martin set and both Kuan and Gebi are just repaints or colorays of the Nom de Plume figure which Blanc is based on. Kuan is a little different in that he has a cloth covering his face but otherwise they are the same.
As far as colorways are concerned these are fantastic. Kuan is amazing with his red shirt, cloth mask and yellow helmet. The colors are striking and really pop on the shelf with my other ThreeA figures. ThreeA’s sticthing and weathering continues to floor me, simply amazing work they are doing.
Gebi is well painted but lacks the the pop that Kuan has, the colors are more standard military. They lack the pop that Kuan has but it is still a fantastic figure. There is nothing new in the belt pouches, but the thickness of the belt has shrunk when compare to Blanc.
The Commando Dropcloth is amazing. This is the second release of the Dropcloth and an all new colorway. The Dropcloth comes with a shotgun. Dropcloths stand around 6 inches tall and have articulation at the ankles, knees, hips, waist, shoulders, elbows, wrists and each finger. The head is also jointed.
The Dropcloth comes with a waist skirt and plenty of pouches. The sewing work is amazing and the skirt even has a wire allowing for dramatic posing. If there is one complaint, it is that the pouches cannot lock into the skirt, I’m constantly pulling them out and I’ll have to glue them in.
This is another great set for the ThreeA collector and for anyone brave enough to make the attempt this is a Great set to pick up on the aftermarket. For anyone in doubt about ThreeA and the price tag associated with these toys, this set should convert any in doubt.
