I ask fwoosh members questions.
They answer them.
WTHIOTina- “What’s NOT in my collection!”
Where do you live?
I live in Dayton, Ohio. I’m in a decent sized town in the suburbs away from the city.
Where do you work?
My wife and I have our own business, Mayo Business Group. We work with Fortune 500 companies, helping them on various projects including increasing their presence in social networks, some marketing, etc. It’s great! It’s mostly work from home and we’re getting bigger. We’re looking to do some expansion so if you’re looking… I also have a background in Early Childhood Education and still work in that field. We also work with our youth group at church.
Who is in you family?
My family is just my wife and I. We’ve been married for 2 1/2 yrs.
Does your wife collect?
My wife does not collect, but she’s very supportive. She loves Mystique and Juggernaut, so I try and pick up stuff featuring those two!
Any pets?
No pets. I don’t like them and she’s allergic – it all works out!
What are your future plans?
Future plans are to build our business big enough that I won’t have to worry about a 9-5 anymore. Hopefully kids will be in there too; whatever God has planned is good for me!
Why so much love for Tina Turner?
Okay, so quick story. When I was growing up, Mom and Dad would have MTV playing all the time (this is of course when they only played music videos). I would walk around the house saying, “got do, got do” but they couldn’t figure out why I was saying that. Then Tina Turner’s video “What’s Love Got To Do With It” came on and I was saying “got do, got to.” Turns out my first words were mom, dad, yes, no, then got do, got do. They took me to see Tina for the first time when I was only 2! Then again when I was 5! I’ve been to see her 14 times. She’s just an inspiration you know? She went through such crap in her life and rose above it all. Plus her music; I’ve yet to find a song I don’t like! And the legs…
You were on the Oprah Winfrey show?
Haha what a good time! Oprah put out a request for all of Tina Turner’s fans to write her as to why they were the biggest fans. I did and my friend Donovan and I were some of the fans chosen. Oprah put us in a hotel, arranged for the limo to pick us up and everything! Somehow…I got a back seat in the audience though. Anyways, that was just the first time! Oprah did the same thing again and we went to Vegas to see her perform on the show with Cher! I kinda lost my mind in the lobby and said “Hey it’s Oprah!” and started walking toward her. Security definitely held me back.
Do you customize?
I don’t….YET. I LOVE customs but I just haven’t been able to get my hands on making a good one. I only own two customs too because they’re usually expensive. I have a Cyber (Wolverine) custom and a Fatale (X-Men) custom. I love them!
You’ve been on the fwoosh for a while but you have a low post count?
I tend to read posts and say, “Ah, I agree” or “Oh that’s a good point.” That doesn’t tend to lend a lot to a discussion so I don’t typically post. I’ve posted more in the past year than ever before. I’m trying to get more involved!
Do you cook?
Well…I made Hamburger Helper last night. Does that count? My wife and I are always so busy we usually just do sandwiches. We’re always on the go!
What is in your collection?
What’s NOT in my collection! If it’s Marvel, especially X-Men then I probably have it! When my wife and I purchased our home, I told her we needed an extra bedroom to be my comic book room; she agreed. Marvel Legends are my absolute favorites followed by the Super Hero Squad. I am really into the Marvel Classic Figurine Collection too. I bought the Mighty Muggs, bobble heads, etc. I can’t do Marvel Universe though. I pick up a stray X-Men character here and there but that’s it. I feel like they killed my Legends.
Do you have all the different toy lines over the years but of the same X-men?
Yes, I’ve been collecting since 1992 so I try to have all the X-Men related characters from every line.
Do you go outside of Marvel?
I only go out of 616 for X-Men Forever. I used to read Ultimate Spidey but the whole Ultimate line went downhill fast. I also like the old Marvel Adventures trades too. My buddy Andy and I actually do a semi-regular podcast at http://www.marvel616politics.com Check it out!
How often do you podcast?
My podcast partner, Andy and I, try to get a podcast out every 2-3 weeks. We are both very busy guys but we do our best. We just recorded one that should be out within a few days. I made sure to plug ‘thefwoosh’ since you all had been so gracious to give me this interview.
How do you choose a subject?
The topics typically always come from Andy. Andy reads EVERY Marvel title. From Models Inc. to Deadpool to Hercules; if Marvel makes it Andy will read it. So Andy typically puts together the flow of the podcast and I make sure that I read those titles along with some others.
Do you prefer TPBs or floppy comics?
I will take a TPB over a floppy comic any day! It’s so much easy to have the entire story in one volume. It’s also easier for traveling.
Where do you vacation? Where would you like to vacation?
We love America…LOVE AMERICA! So our big places are the beach. Myrtle Beach is probably our favorite place ever!!
What other sites do you visit?
Newsarama, Comicbookresources, Marvel616Politics, Facebook, I’m an eBay freak, TinaTurner.be, marvelousnews – those are the ones I have to check everyday. And of course thefwoosh! I check the fwoosh probably 15 times a day!
What do you spend your money?
Comic book stuff, rare Tina Turner DVDs, my mortgage
What is wrong with you?
I’m very vain so I spend quite a bit of money on facial products. Being vain is wrong but not looking young!!
Thanks Jarid!!!
