Make My Marvel! – Rockslide

A psionic being composed entirely of organic rock, Santo Vaccarro was one of the first of Emma Frost’s Hellions squad at the Xavier Institute. A bully by nature, Rockslide meshed well with the arrogant attitude of the squad. Early in his student career, it was discovered that Santo could survive being shattered and could even be re-built following an altercation with the Kingmaker. When most of the student body at Xavier’s were de-powered following M-day, Rockslide and the rest of his squad were absorbed into one all-encompassing New Mutants team.

Shortly the new team was formed, Purifiers attacked the school and killed dozens of de-powered students as they were being evacuated. The grief and anger from the loss of their friends drove Santo and the rest of the New Mutants to pursue and attack the Purifiers despite being instructed otherwise. During their assault on the Purifier’s compound, the New Mutants discovered that Nimrod was being used by William Stryker to predict future events and direct his assaults on mutants to prevent those events accordingly. Nimrod broke free and, again, Rockslide was shattered. However this time when he was rebuilt, Rockslide had an even more jagged appearance.

The New Mutants’ next trial found them trapped in Belasco’s limbo dimension battling both Darkchylde and Belasco himself. Once again, Rockslide was destroyed but this time was able to rebuild himself from Limbo’s surroundings as a being of pure molten rock.

Rockslide’s smoldering new form eventually faded after the New Mutant’s return home, just in time for the events of World War Hulk. During the defense of the mansion, Rockslide went toe-to-toe with the Hulk himself. He held his own briefly until the Hulk tore Rockslide’s limbs from his body and threw them into Connecticut. Despite his rough attitude and numerous dismemberments, Rockslide has proven to be a valuable asset to both the X-Men and New Mutants.
