No, the other one.
Last week’s poll re-cap: I’m not sure if it was the anti-Nu Marvel conspiracy at work, or if it was just the allure of getting a figure of an icon like NFL Superpatriot, but the haters chose no Sister Grimm with 35%. While "none" was the winning option, the majority of voters did in fact choose some version of the character with 65%, the lead choice being Sister Grimm as she appeared in the Mystic Arcana mini-series with 20%.
Make My Marvel! – Gladiator
Melvin Potter was a costume designer with a total hatred of all costumed superheroes. (If they’d thrown a little more business Melvin’s way, thing might’ve been different?) Creating the Gladiator battle armor and persona, Melvin began his hero-thrashing career by attacking and defeating Daredevil. The person he defeated, however, turned out to be Matt Murdock’s friend Foggy Nelson, who’d taken to dressing as Daredevil in order to score some action with Karen Page. No one knew at the time that all he needed was some heroin to seal the deal. Anyways, the genuine article had to step in to save Foggy’s desperate ass, mopping the floor with Gladiator. This kicked off a personal vendetta with Daredevil that lasted for several years.
Finding the love of a good womanTM, Melvin eventually gave up the Gladiator persona and for a time was even Matt Murdock’s bodyguard. All was fine and dandy until someone looking to make his bones by killing Daredevil used the threat of harm to a long lost (and, btw, not really his) daughter to get Melvin to to attack DD as the Gladiator once again. Melvin was eventually defeated and sent to prison. While there, he claimed to have been falsely accused of the murder of several inmates. Matt Murdock stepped in to defend him, as his heightened senses told him that Melvin’s claims of innocence were true. The Lasso of Truth Daredevil’s supersonic hearing ain’t, as Melvin was later revealed to be the actual murderer.
Melvin eventually escaped from prison, this time bent on revenge against Murdock. Again as Gladiator, he’s already murdered several more people and is still at large. Gladiator has no extra-human abilities, though he is a skilled martial artist and is in pique physical condition. His main weapons are his spinning blades.
How to make it: Gladiator’s listed at 6’8", making just a hair too small for a modern BAF. The only accessory should be a removable helmet. Single-carded is the way to go with this one, unless Hasbro went the two-pack route, teaming him with another big DD villain like Typhoid Mary. Fingers crossed.
Which version of Gladiator do you most want Hasbro to make?
