Hasbro: Marvel Legends Ultimate Spider-Man and Vulture 2-Pack Video and Quick Pics

When news of the Walmart exclusive Marvel Legends Ultimate Spider-Man and Vulture two-pack hit, I was in Orlando, FL. I was slightly interested in the set so on the long drive home we stopped at more than a few Walmarts and never saw it. After a day back I stroll into my local WM and there it is, just waiting for me. Funny how that works out.

And I say slightly interested because I never dove too deep into the Ultimate Universe. I remember reading the first few arcs of Spidey and liking it but it didn’t go much further than that. But after having this Spidey figure for a short period of time before sending it off to Pabs in Denmark I knew it was a pretty nice figure, and the Vulture, while not my preferred old man version, was visually interesting enough to grab my attention.

It wasn’t until after some schooling from YouTube comments that I learned that this Spider-Man is actually based on the Ultimate cartoon, not the comics. Notice the missing red on the biceps. Also, although the package lists him as Adrian Toomes, this Vulture is actually Blackie Drago. Again, thanks go out to the YouTube crowd.

The figures themselves are solid. I don’t go much into Spider-Man because I reviewed this same figure a while back when it was single released in a standard wave. Twice, actually, since the Miles Morales Spidey from that same wave shared the body also. Since I don’t have that one anymore there is no comparison shots showing any changes in the colors from the original release to this version but from what I’ve seen the blues are different.

The Vulture uses some parts from Superior Spider-Man along with a new torso, crotch, head, and lower arms. It’s not a bad body at all but my problem stems from the d-tents in the legs and ankles. They are positioned awkwardly, making him a bit odd to stand. And then the wings, while looking great, don’t have any articulation to them. Despite that, it’s a great looking figure.

  1. Spider-Man mishappery aside, I’m super psyched for this Vulture (he looks -enough- like classic Vulture that he can pass for me) and, since this 2-pack will have its own place on the shelf unlike other, more poorly-handled Wal-Mart exclusives since it doesn’t share a price point with anything else, I look forward to it being fairly available.

I ALSO look forward to seeing it on clearance, at which point I will nab up a second one for Vulture’s wings to paint them red for Sam Wilson Cap and figure out a way to affix them to his back.

  2. Is Ultimate Vulture modeled on Bendis? Because it looks just like him, right down to the creepy smile. I suppose if you ever wanted to make a Bendis custom, this is you lucky day.

  3. I’ve got enough Ultimate characters now (Miles, Peter, Jessica, Green Goblin, Beetle, Cap) that I can justify it for that Vulture alone (granted largely because he’s got those big meaty wings). Makes me debate hunting down Ultimate Iron Man, Fury and Wolverine though.

  4. i’m honestly really only tempted by this set because of that unmaked vulture head, which would’ve been a decent prof. x head for the chameleon body if it didn’t have that obnoxious grin
works great for vulture, not at all for xavier imo

still though the vulture looks kind of cool, even though i hate the ultimate universe and really want to stick to 616 characters

  5. I’m hearing this in my head in Alec Guinness’ voice. Which makes this comment totally awesome.

  6. I’m gonna be honest- I absolutely despise the Spider-Man figure in this set. And it’s for a really stupid reason.

When they showed off that they were basically rereleasing the Venom wave Spidey again, I figured they’d change up the color scheme- which was awesome, because I LOVE that figure, but the really pale, washed-out teal? Bleh. Spider-Man needs, if not the bright blue of Pizza Spidey, then a baby blue, sky blue, or a rich royal blue. Turns out I was completely correct! And I LOVE this figure’s color scheme! It’s the perfect red and blue for Spidey!

Two problems, though. One, he’s lacking a thwip-hand and a punch-hand for some reason. Like, did it… really save you that much money to leave out two tiny accessories? But that’s not my big beef with it.

My big beef with this figure is that it lacks the red lines with the web designs down the arms. Which means that this is not made to represent the Spider-Man of the Ultimate universe… this is Spider-Man from Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.

    Which… is… terrible.

This ALSO means that I’m probably going to sell off this figure as soon as I get it, or throw it in an eBay lot, or something. And that’s a damn shame, because this could have very easily been my favorite Spider-Man figure of all non-Ben-Reilly-Spider-Man figures ever. The sculpt is PERFECT and the colors are perfect and if it weren’t for those two tiny details I’d adore this figure.

I acknowledge it’s petty and dumb, but man.

  7. Theres a very noticeable fingerprint on the mask of your vulture. Right between the eyes.

  8. Lack of articulation in the wings completely kills my interest in the Vulture figure.

  9. Vulture looks great. I’ll definitely get him, but I hope that we still eventually get a classic version. Also, I bought a second ultimate Spider Man to have both a masked and unmasked version, but now I’m really wishing that I’d waited.
