This is still the best Sabretooth figure made in Marvel Legends. The costume, designed by Jim Lee, made its first appearance in 1992’s X-Men #6, and it became the canonical look for Sabretooth as the look dominated video games, cartoons, and other media.
This Sabretooth is from 2003’s Marvel Legends Series 5 and still holds up with today’s Marvel Legends. Depending on your choice of look for Sabretooth, this Marvel Legend might be on the skinny side, but I prefer it as it channels the Mark Texeira look, which always had a long and lean look. No matter what your preference, be it Jim Lee, Texeira, the cartoon look, or the video game look, this Sabretooth should hit the spot.
The figure is huge. It’s an imposing figure when posed next to our standard 6-inch action figures, even more so when posed to next the latest brown Wolverine from 2016’s Hasbro Marvel Legends. And it looks great in that regard. The figure is super ripped and the costume details, like the hooked elbows, claws, and the fur collar are beautifully sculpted and make for a great look. The head sculpt is one of the best out there, even though the head feels like it is a tad too large. Sabertooth, despite his size, always seems to be drawn with a small head, so this large noggin feels our of place.
The articulation on this figure is perfect. It’s got all the standard super articulation and then some. There are shoulder pivots allowing for the some extra lateral extension, giving some more posing possibilities. Everything in this articulation scheme allows for the maximum posability and really allows you to stretch the limits. The only improvement to the articulation would be in the ankle; the rocker doesn’t allow for a lot of movement side-to-side.
Sabretooth comes with a Sentinel foot as a base. It’s another piece to the ongoing broken-piece Sentinel bases that came with Magneto, Gambit, and Colossus. It’s another great piece, and while the Sentinel is a bit small, it still makes for a great diorama setting when all the bases are together.
I’ve professed enough love for this figure, and, as you can guess, it is a must-have for your collection. It’s still the best Marvel Legends Sabretooth we’ve had and the figure’s sculpt and design still work with current Marvel Legends. You can pick him up today here:
