Figma’s Hulk was originally announced way way way back in 2013 as part of Wonderfest. It blows my mind that one of my most wanted figures is finally sitting on my shelf, and it is by far the greatest Marvel Legends Hulk never made by ToyBiz and Hasbro.
I said that before about figma’s Iron Man and it definitely holds true about Hulk as well. I was completely worried that this figure would suck; the amount of time it’s taken to be delivered really had me worried, but I can safely say I am in love with this figure.
Every toy has its faults, and every collector has their tastes. But, for me, this is the perfect comic or movie Hulk. I compared it to the Hasbro Marvel Legends (review and review), and this thing blows them out of the water on sculpt and articulation. Sure, the Hasbro stuff has more joints, but the figma Hulk’s joints can do everything and more and still looks fantastic. I was worried about the ab joint since it moves at the waist and not the upper ab, but there is no problem — there is an incredible range of motion. The lack of bicep swivel bothers me, but the “elbro” works and there is no need for more. Even the neck hinge and ball work well together.
The sculpt is amazing. This looks like movie Hulk, channels comic Hulk, and succeeds everywhere S.H. Figuarts fails. The head looks like the Ruffalo Hulk, the size is over 7 inches, and the girth is right. RoboKillah and I noticed that the thighs are wide, and I discussed the topic with my oldest son as well, and while they are wide, it does make sense for the Hulk to have some monster thighs for the all the jumping he does. And the chest sculpt, the arms, and everything is just perfect. You can listen to Robo gushing over this figure in his video review:
I love the color on this figure. The green is amazing and I don’t know how much is molded and painted, but the wash/highlights/airbrushing are perfect. The hair and even the shade of purple on the pants is spot on.
The figure comes with extra fists that can be swapped. The face comes off and the eyes can be moved. I can’t help but wonder if figma doesn’t have a screaming head planned down the line. The legs and waist can also be easily swapped. Again, a sign that figma might have future plans for a variant?
I realize that I could go on and on about a figure that I’ve literally waited for years to be produced. This figure is one of those rare occasions that the wait and hype were met. Often with toys that have a long lead like this, it can be a huge disappointment, as either the sculpting has moved on (gotten better), engineering has changed, or the market has moved on. In this case none of that is true, and everything about this figure is relevant and on target for current collector expectations.
Collectors should absolutely pick this figure up. It is worth every expensive cent. He goes great with comic or movie lines.
