Retro Tortugas posted a new pic of the first wave of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from the new movie coming later this year. While the designs stray from the look that most of us are used to, whether it be the original comics or the original cartoon, they are what they are: A new take for a modern retelling. Good, bad, more mainstream exposure on top of the new (and fantastic) cartoon isn’t such a bad thing.
Or maybe it is. Mandarin Splinter is interesting, the individual costume elements for each Turtle is kind of neat, but man, the designs themselves. What is up with Shredder? Can his cape cut you? Will I be able to use April’s head for a ML Shadowcat custom? We’ll see. Oh, and are those ab crunches on the Turtles?
Is that a Foot Soldier, the Rat King or Casey Jones?
Are all nine of these going to be one wave?
I actually like Shredder’s cape (but a pox on the remainder of these designs).

Why shouldn’t the Turtles get the same esteemed treatment as the rest of the characters from sci-fi fantasy/comic book superhero multiverse?
Like the several myriad verssions of..He-men, Black suit and Blue etc..Superman, BigTime/Symbiote/FF/Iron/Spiderman, Armoured/Jacket&leggings/Skirted/Flashpoint/WonderWoman, Gray/Green/Maestro/WorldWar/King/Hulk, The13Doctor Who”Doctors”… not to mention the kajillion versions of Batman and Ironman armours! Score one for the TMNT! Leo,Don,Mikey,Raph and co.have finally hit the bigtime! Woot! woot! Looks like my USagent,Blue Supes and Orion Pax will have some new company on my shelves!

My thoughts exactly. Bay isn’t helping my joke about how these designs feel overly Liefeldian. Now all we need are dozens of pouches, bad proportions and huge guns.
I’m guessing that April O’Neil will become fodder for Lois Lane customs and those turtle heads will be transplanted to custom bodies as well.

Ha! I though I was the only one that though Splinter looked like the Mandarin! and yes Shredders cape is seriously a bit to much. I love how the turtles have an crunch but either way I won’t be owning these
These just feel “over-designed.” Like they came up with decent modern designs, then Michael Bay came in and said “What if his cape had BLADES on it?”
