First Look – JLU Three Packs

mattel_logoWe are wrapping up our cavalcade of Mattel First Looks with three of the upcoming JLU Fan Collection three packs. There is a nice balance of long-demanded show characters with a couple that did not make it to the broadcast stations. Come have a look at what is on the horizon for what has become one of the most extensive DC lines ever.

We are glad to bring you three separate packs: the first includes Heat Vision Superman, Silver Banshee and, for the first time, Metallo. The second set features a literal Rogues gallery with Captain Boomerang, Captain Cold and the Flash. The final set includes two characters never featured in the JLU show the Cyborg and Plastic Man, as well as a Fourth World mainstay in Mister Miracle. Let’s have a look at each set individually.

Heat Vision Superman

In a set that includes two Super-baddies, you knew that Clark would have to be included. This figure features a new heat vision deco so he can blast his cohorts from here to the remains of Krypton.

Sliver Banshee

Featured earlier in a six pack, Banshee makes her return just in time he help Metallo gang up on Superman.

Metallo

The star of the set, Metallo makes his JLU debut in this set and makes it totally worth it. Between some of the figures in the Thanagar pack, some from the other two three packs in this look and Metallo here, we have gotten some impressive JLU figures as of late. Corbin here is one of the most detailed figures in the line to date and he should make a lot of people very happy. His paint is clean and his torn shirt is very flexible so he retains his waist articulation. Very nice.

Captain Boomerang

Now this is what I am talking about! I am such a sucker for Flash Rogues and Boomer here REALLY does his cartoon counterpart justice. The has a very detailed head sculpt and his scarf looks great. I loved the Flash and Substance episodes when the rogues came together and his turn with the Suicide Squad was great too. I really hope he shows up in DCUC soon.

Captain Cold

The second captain of the set is my favorite Flash Rogue. I have such a spot for Snart here and as defacto leader of the Rogues, he has some great characterization. I love how in the show he complained of his ulcer and had to order milk in the bar, great stuff. Now I needs me a Trickster!

Flash

C’mon, you knew Mattel had to include Wally to beat up on the other two, you know this figure well by now.

Mister Miracle

I love the New Gods/Fourth World stuff so much. So, so much. I want figures of every DC Kirby character ever, but you probably already have this one.

Cyborg

Because the Teen Titans show ran at about the same time as JLU, most of them never had a chance to debut on the latter. Well, that is not stopping Mattel from giving us Victor here in Timm-verse fashion. Most of the detail is painted on, but he has very nicely sculpted boots. The paint is done very well though and the black lines are extremely clean. Hopefully we will see more Titans in the line soon.

Plastic Man

While my preference for stretchy characters in the DCU falls with Elongated Man (I know, crazy right?) I am still a sucker for Eel here. He is just one of those great comic characters and he has a very unique look to boot. I suppose there was only room for one stretch man on the show, but not in this line, Plas has personality for miles in that head sculpt, Superman’s spit curl ain’t got nothin’ on Plas. Cool.

Whew, lots of stuff to look at lately, eh? Thanks so much for checking out this First Look, these sets should be hitting your local Target very soon.

*Again, thanks to Matty and Toy Guru for making these First Looks possible, we always appreciate it!
