Fwoosh Music

Mon Jan 25, 2021 2:59 am

I think the old "What Are you Listening To" thread has gone the way of the Thanos snap.

For any Gen X-ers out there online right now, jump over to https://www.abc.net.au/doublej/ and listen live. Every year, Double J's sister station, JJJ, counts down the Hottest 100 songs of the year voted by Australians, by and large.

Right now, they are replaying the 100 top songs from 2000. Some great tracks, and you might hear some Aussie stuff you've never heard before.

I cannot decide if I dig this or not, there's elements I like but it's a pretty different take from the original

I'm still in the process of becoming a Ghost fan; but that's not better than the original Stones track. Take it into the studio to clean it up a bit and it might get there.

The Square Hammer video is bad-ass to the bone. There's never enough German Expressionism in the world.

Agreed. I don't think anyone who isn't the stones will do it perfectly though. Not even a big fan of the GnR version. I'm still not sure I like it, but the build up is nice

I used to always forget Fwoosh had a music thread (pre-snap) but then it would pop up and it would make me happy.

I don't like the Rolling Stones. At all. And I'm not actually a big fan of Ghost's quasi-pop, groove rock metal ... thing.. that they do. I don't think it's bad, and they have a few songs I keep on rotation. But it's only a few and I wouldn't rank them in my top 1000 favorite songs, either. So there's nothing in that performance for me. But I love GNR's Sympathy for the Devil.

I haven't been listening to as much new stuff as I usually do. That's probably a combination of there not being much new stuff I'm interested in the last couple of months, as well as just not really having the time or head-space lately to sit and listen to stuff to really process it. I listen to music constantly. But I only listen to stuff I've never heard before when I have the mental space and time to give it a proper chance.

I'm digging Wardruna's new album. It's cool seeing them get so much prominence after contributing to the new Assassin's Creed game.

Frozen Soul put out their first album just.. maybe this past Friday? Or the week before, maybe. Crypt of Ice. It's absolutely oppressively brutal and I love it.

Besides that, I've been listening to a lot of old Jinjer and Kataklysm.

It's been all about Spiritbox lately. The official videos give a good idea of the band but this three part stay-at-home "live" show has a [email protected]#$ insane sound mix, it's better than the actual recordings.

Seriously?! I love Spiritbox. They're like this great blend of djent and metalcore. I've got them on my work playlist.

Well shit, which thread to post in... I'll stay here.

Been listening to Kalandra a lot lately. Norwegian band. They don't have a lot of music, but I love Katrine's voice.

Live video of them sing 2 songs. The first in Norwegian (Virkelighetens Etterklang), and 2nd in English (Brave New World).

I've become a fan of Folamour's DJing. He pulls a lot of 70s Funk, and 70s Funk is the peak of human musical civilization.

I've never been a Rolling Stones fan, either.

I found out about Wardruna from them doing "Helvegen" with Aurora a couple years back. They are very good.

They've got a lot of talent, for sure. It's great stuff, for me, to have on in the background when I'm doing other stuff. Music like this generally flies -way- under the radar, so it's cool to see some of it getting popular (relative to similar music), even if it's just because they did the music for a shitty video game.

Q: What if....
Elvis Costello had met the Attractions in Chapel Hill in 1988?
The Cars had formed in Minneapolis in 1983?
Joe Jackson made a record with the Pretenders?
Blur attended university together in Athens in the late 70's/early 80's?

A: VECTRALUX

Our debut record will drop later this summer. I invite you to check out our first single (it's a "double a-side")
