Absolutely! It was my pleasure. I had a lot of fun putting that together!

Well said. I'm not sure how well, say, a Sinister Six movie is going to work without Spider-Man. But Sony's gonna do what Sony's gonna do.

In an ideal world, Marvel would have had the rights to all their characters before they founded Marvel Studios. Spider-Man and the X-Men should have been in Phase One.

And it makes me sad to think we'll never see Tony Stark interact with Reed Richards or Charles Xavier.

But it is what it is. They have the rights back to MOST of their characters, so hopefully in the not real distant future we'll see a Hulk versus Wolverine battle and maybe a Spider-Man/Daredevil team up.

I hope.

Disney should have bought Spidey back when they had the chance. IIRC that was around the time of the Fox buyout, and on paper, it allows Sony to assume the risk and Disney/Marvel to reap rewards. But the “will Spidey be in the MCU” drama, combined with the slipshod movies Sony keeps churning out after mistaking Feige’s success with their toy as their own, it feels like it hurts Disney more than it helps them.

I don't recall Disney ever having the opportunity to buy Spider-Man back from Sony. It was only after Amazing Spider-Man 2 was so poorly received/performed that Feige approached Pascal at Sony and suggested that they let Marvel Studios help with their films. If it wasn't for that, Sony was content to milk that Spider-Man cash cow into oblivion.

Nothing public for sure, but Sony seemed to be putting feelers out between Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Civil War, when the whole Sony Pictures studio was making flop after flop. I’d have to look up the timing, but there was the series of hacks that opened a lot of bad press for Sony. But the success of Holland’s trilogy, and especially NWH, that moment appears to have passed.

I dunno, sounds like it might be fan rumor to me. Rubbish. Poppycock. Baloney. Dorky porkies. Geek bunk. Crapola. Cyber-snake oil. Hooey. Tech dreck. Goughy fallacies. Gooberpoo. Bull buzz. Gobshite.

I'll stop.

I highly doubt the rights to Spider-Man were ever up for grabs. I don't have much nice to say about Sony, but Sony leadership is too smart to ever willingly part with one of their biggest franchises because it doesn't make dollar sense to do so. Disney offers five billion - Sony can make that it 5-7 Spidey movies, plus residuals forever.

So apparently there is a possibility Universal's distribution deal for any hulk solo movies may end next year. Maybe we'll get an announcement at sdcc 2023 for World War Hulk...

I assume this is a reference to something from the comics? I don't know if any MCU characters are going to cross into Sony stuff behind the core Spider-Man movies though.

It is. Wouldn't make sense in the films, but I would still like to see it :D

I suspect Sony isn't all that interested in making sense anymore, so who knows?
