Marvel Legends in 2023 General Discussion

Hyperion does look good with the sculpted armor. I think the 4” figure had that, and it was definitely phoned in on the Hit Monkey wave figure. Dr. Spectrum looks fine.

Sorry for “the line isn’t catering to me” complaint, but man, I need them to throw a bone to the started teams or near completion. Credit where it’s due for knocking out the last two Life Foundation symbiotes last year, but they have so many teams one from completion, or left untouched for years. And I know Nighthawk is a Squadron Supreme member, but he’s also on the Defenders and eventually Avengers, so he’s less out of place from his Squadron teammates.

GS X-Men - Banshee
Excalibur - Phoenix
90’s X-Factor - Wolfsbane
90’s X-Force - Feral
HFC - Harry Leland
Maximum Carnage - Carrion

Inhumans - no new figures since 2017
90’s Thunderbolts - no new figures since 2020

Spectrum does what he needs to. Looks fine.

Hyperion body is a big step up, though I prefer both the head and the buccaneer boots on the original - might see if I can swap those in.

Hmmn. Hyperion is at least an all new lower/upper torso, but has pins. Spectrum has pinless arms with pinned legs (opposite of Toad). [edit] Oh, Hyperion as pinless legs but pinned arms. [end edit] Hyperion does look taller/bigger than Spectrum. Not a perfect set by any means, but not a terrible one either. Just hit the middle ground.

Honestly, the thing that kinda bothers me the most is the sculpted abs on Hyperions waist cover.

At least they don't have another price-hike with them. I'll be getting them.

So, Hyperion looks to use the shoulders, arms, hands, hips, thighs, knees, and upper calf of Retro Hercules with a new torso and head. Looks good.

I honestly don't really get the hangup about the use of pins in the joints on certain figures. The vast (VAST) majority of figures in my displays have pinned joints. It doesn't bother me in the slightest if new figures have them. I'm OK if they don't but I can't see being hung up about it since there's a zero percent chance they are going to replace every character previously released with pinless versions.

It’s definitely something that never bothered me before they started implementing pinless joints, and *mostly* doesn’t bother me still. But on certain colors it does stand out now - Gorr, for example, I think would have been greatly improved by being pinless as the holes stick out like a sore thumb against his coloration.

It’s also something they’ve framed as an upgrade to previously made figures, so I think lots of people want to see that upgrade to feel the value is there as prices rise.

These two are not exactly high on my most-wanted list - just never found Squadron Supreme to be particularly interesting - but I'm okay with the way these look. Spectrum would be eye-catching on the shelf. $50 is fine. I probably will pick them up eventually if they get discounted.

Just posted over the 2-Pack thread; pins, pinless, both or either/or, does not bother me at all.

I like the pins from a customizing perspective.

So…..this may be concerning?
Hard to say. From a ML perspective they seem to be operating with a pretty bare bones staff already. This may accelerate the idea of fewer releases at a higher price point idea.

A quote from the article.

Despite strong growth in Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming, Hasbro Pulse, and our licensing business, our Consumer Products business underperformed in the fourth quarter against the backdrop of a challenging holiday consumer environment,” said Chris Cocks, Hasbro chief executive officer.

Marvel Legends is part of Hasbro Pulse and the licensing business, and it said those areas experienced strong growth. So it seems like ML is one of the products that is actually performing well for Hasbro. So I doubt they'll cut any of the staff from that division. In fact they may even increase focus on those areas that are actually profitable for them.
