So I have a long standing pre order for the Mezco 89 Batman that had a $20 NRD on it. The pre orders sold out over a year ago, and have never opened back up. If I were to cancel my pre order, the company would get to keep my $20 NRD, AND turn around and collect another $20 NRD from the next guy that takes my pre order slot, because I promise you, within 24 hours probably less, someone else would take my pre order slot. So now the company just gets to pocket an extra NRD for the same figure...how does that "boggle" anyone's mind that some consumers might see that as a bit shady???... Again, I've never insinuated I should get my money back, but what's so wrong with giving store credit? You maybe cool with just giving company's free money, but I'm not.

Anyway you look at it, NRDs are a scam. Especially since most preorders that require NRDs are more expensive, limited products that 97% of the time sellout at some point. These action figure etailers are mostly a joke. They are essentially scalpers with a fancy website.

Guess what - if you don't like to pay a non-refundable deposit NO ONE MAKES YOU. You have the choice not to commit to it. Of course, you run the risk of missing out on the product if you don't - but that's a choice you make, up front, of your own free will. Acting all victimized because you changed your mind and decommitted from a sizable purchase you made is ludicrous. The terms of your purchase were not secret and were not a surprise. You agreed to the terms. Crying about them after the fact because you changed your mind is ludicrous.

But, maybe try holding your breath until they give you your money back.... at least then the rest of us wouldn't have to hear about it any more.

if you cancel it will go the next person on their waitlist. it would not require a NRD from that person. they would only be billed when the figure ships.

NRD are non-refundable. That's what the NR stands for. You know that going in.

Should have just kept the F4 pre-orders, and then sold them later on to get your money back.

If thats the case, then I'm totally cool with it. The only part that I thought was BS is if they get to collect multiple NRDs for the same pre order slot.

The point of the NRD is that they may not be able to sell that item after you cancelled, but they are still on the hook for it. A lot of pre-orders are used to gauge how many people are interested and thus how many units should be produced. The NRD ensures that people will think twice about ordering and cancelling that product willy-nilly. You better be sure you want it, because it's probably something more expensive or obscure than the kinds of things they can easily sell to your average collector. So there is no guarantee that they will be able to sell whatever you cancelled your order for, and the NRD is just a way to at least recoup some of the loss they would incur from someone's poor decision making or flakiness.
Exactly this. High dollar item that they determined their initial order # based on. They could wind up highly overstocked on an expensive item. Doing what they can to get people to honor their commitment or at least cover some of the potential losses if they won't.

Would love to see how one "orders from oversees" without going thru an "etailer". My guess is flights to Japan come to more than $42.

What does any of this have to do with Disney not allowing Hasbro to make a Black Series Slave Leia?

As someone who absolutely CAN be a Karen, I think this argument over NRDs is dumb. If you commit to a preorder with a NRD, you don't get the NRD back.

I've chosen many times NOT to buy something because of a NRD. Nobody puts a gun to your head with those.

Now, back to Dorkside, I hope everyone owed money can get it back.

Swerving back on topic with some positive news and due credit:
DST responded to my request to provide me my current store credit balance. (i.e. they are working through emails and responding and they are tracking store credit.)

Further, they refunded an item they no longer can deliver and stated the prepaid amount will go back to my Paypal in the form of an echeck (i.e they are trying to do right by prepaid orders that won't be fulfilled.

This allays some of my concern.

Since we're on the topic, I'm THIS close to canceling my Mezco Keaton Batman on principle and just eating my NRD. They obviously have no idea how to mass produce that seamless buck. The figure is THREE YEARS late!
