She's frustratingly deceptive. When you first look at her in a group shot of all the other Outback X-Men, the knee-jerk reaction is, "Oh, YES!" But then you look closer and you see she was never really drawn that way on that team, just on ONE low-run modern variant cover. Then you look closer and you see what IS there looks good. Can you live with that? Then you look closer and you see the trademark Hasbro corner cutting on the outfit. But the colors are on-point. Can you live with that? She doesn't hold up to inspection.......but does she? Oh bother!

I couldn’t find a thread on the 5pk but I feel like I need to ask permission to interrupt the Rogue discussion.

Mine arrived today and it’s dope.

Zero is what it is, but I thought he was in the Barnes Cap body, and it’s actually the Spider UK/Black Panther body. I like it, and the reused portal is nice.

I like Vertigo as is, and really want some other Marauders to join her. In the meantime, she shall hang with Sabretooth and Sinister.

Random is better than he has any right to be. I think the hips on this modern Hercules body are weird though.

Stryfe looks outstanding. Feels like a totally different figure than the original. A worthy upgrade.

Pretty Boy is incredible. That new sculpt is insane and poses really well. He looks great with the Reavers.

Very satisfied with the set.z

Yeah I am pleasantly surprised with the villains 5 pack, considering I only really wanted Stryfe...who is fantastic!

Pretty Boy is nice to have to round out the Reavers. They really went all out on a pretty much D-List character.

In terms of Marauders, I expect a Scalphunter/Greycrow at some point. Other than that, I don't see the appeal of Harpoon, Arclight, Scrambler, etc.

But then again, we just Zero & Pretty Boy in this set :P

Speaking of Zero, I would totally be down for some more MLF members. Forearm, Wildside, Reaper, Tempo!

...and yes, I realize I just questioned the appeal of one group of second rate villains and promoted another

I am admittedly not someone who was dying for this Rogue to get made, but I think the figure looks great for what it’s representing. I’ll never say no to bigger hair (shout out to white Elektra having the best Legends head of all time) and the lack of dedicated sculpting for the thigh highs plagues many a Legends figure, but the figure will fit solidly with the others from that era.

I get why they do it, but I'm skipping this figure for that reason. I'm pretty indifferent to my current go-to Rogue figure, the one from the Pyro/Rogue two-pack. Given the choice of upgrading to a costume I like slightly more without sculpted details or saving the $25, I'm saving the money.

If this were the Uncanny Avengers look or a different green/white costume with a hood, I'd have no choice. I don't feel that much better about this costume, though, so it cost them a purchase in this case.
Yeah I totally feel that. Hasbro are the ones with all the numbers to back it up and they do what they do, but I honestly wonder if the trade off works out in their favor when they do stuff like this. I will be buying this Rogue, but stubbornly holding out for a sale. If the figure had that extra effort of the few dedicated pieces the costume calls for I would have preordered it day one. Would a better product move more units to offset the increased cost? They must not think so or they’d be doing it.

They could have used the Scarlet Witch upper torso to give her costume *some* sculpt at least. I'm not too bothered but sometimes their choices are kind of headscratching.

Re:Rogue, this is an instance where a Zarana style hair swap would’ve done wonders, or even an altogether alternate head. The Scarlet Witch torso wouldve been nice, but aside 2 pack Storm or the thigh straps for the 3 packs I can’t recall many thigh boot or details sculpted. I am still very much looking forward to her and that head on the Jim Lee costume makes a nice modern version.

As for the villain 5 pack:
Warning! FRAT! :
I had no QC issues at all, paint articulation etc all solid.
-Headswapped Stryfe, I like the painted details/sword hand on the Jubilee wave, but the new one is kinda loose on the old.
-Pretty boy is the standout for me.
-Random is nice, being mostly Thunderstrike and Im hoping to fill out the Messiah era Acolytes/Marauders more
-I was rather underwhelmed by Zero, the buck is awful and not much attachment to him, or much or the MLF.
-Vertigo the face print is nice, the costume details and pinless arms great, but Im really not suped about her at all, I want more Marauders but not like this.
Overall I’m happy to have this set, as with other random villain 5 packs it’s a mixed bag, mostly reuse but starts to fill some gaps and gives people Stryfe that missed that TRU Jubilee wave.
Here’s my current X-Villain shelves with the new set incorporated

One thing about Random that I really like is that they actually painted all of the buckles on his boots, as well as the zipper on the jacket (which I believe was unpainted on thunderstrike)

So while he doesn't come with any extras, they put a little more effort into his paint than they usually do.

The X-Men fought the Reavers and took over their base in the Outback in UXM 229, the very same issue Rogue first appeared in this outfit, which she then wore through UXM 246 and beyond. So, this look is, in fact, THE correct Outback Rogue. The black body suit with the loose tank top look is pre-Outback.

Got my villains set yesterday but waiting to open it until I get the rest of the 60th anniversary stuff in a few days.

Where is everyone displaying Random? I had always thought of him as kind of a reluctant X-Men ally. He went on a few missions with X-Factor after initially fighting Polaris but rejected membership on the team. Reading through his Wikipedia entry, I see that his allegiances are all over the place.

The ‘90s Toy Biz Random figure is on an orange card, which was for good guys, and not purple, though. And I believe he was pictured as a member of X-Factor on some of those ‘90s trading cards. I was going to put him with my ‘90s X-Men next to guest star characters like Longshot and Maverick.

They’re trying to complete this team fast. We’ve gotten four characters with Outback-era costumes from it in a year — Dazzler, Longshot, Havok, and Rogue. (I know Havok is missing his neck rings but it’s close enough by Hasbro standards.)

I assume either shirtless Colossus or armored Psylocke will be in the 2024 X-Men comic wave. I’m hoping they do a Storm in black with the lightning colt across her chest. The punk storm or the black costume one they did release could be stand in but I’d prefer they get her closer to the actual look.

Love how close we are to this team. Hopefully they find a way to slip Gateway in as they get close to wrapping it up.

I was talking about the head only. That's J Scott Campbell's distinctive look.

Love that series of the different teams. Is there something similar for the Avengers?
