Future MCU Spiderman/ No Way Home Legends Speculation and Discussion

Heh, right, I'm one of those weirdos who can recognize every iron man armor and aside from most of the Iron Man 3 ones, tell you which mark they are. I don't expect anyone else to have that eye and kinda envy people who can't tell much of a difference. (This likely stems from my Fett obsession and hype focusing on every detail of every costume.) But I definitely recognize unmasked heads are great even though I've moved on from displaying them now. I will always appreciate having options with heads. Domino having two facial expressions, as well as the only Thanos I have... Which I think came with Strange and the Iron Man mark 50. That is awesome.

But yeah, would be interesting to learn how the likeness rights work fo Sony stuff. I'm probably still sore from the ASM2 and Electro figures in 2014. Ugh. I'm really interested in a lot of the behind the scenes stuff between marvel and the studios, what's mandated and so on. Hopefully some of that comes to light eventually.

I am happy when they give yall the option for the unmasked heads. I just don't use them, so it doesn't effect me much personally when they aren't there

There had already been rumors about there being issues with Andrew Garfield's likeness rights. The Hot Toys Amazing Spider-Man film was rebranded as an Amazing Spider-Man 2 figure, seemingly as an attempted workaround, but there’s still been no update on it for a while.

Has a hasbro pulse exclusive ever shipped out earlier than its originally scheduled release date? The wait for the 3 pack is killing me haha

I know we've talked about this before but I would love to know what the process between Hasbro, Disney, and Sony looks like when trying to get actor likeness. It's gotta be interesting at the very least. We've only gotten Peter, MJ, JJJ, and Ned. Holland gets a pass because he's the star. I'm sure Disney/Hasbro did what needed to be done on him. Zendaya has had plenty of likenesses made of her between dolls from her days on Disney Channel to Dune, to fortnite. So maybe she comes ready to have figures made regardless of a studio she's with. Ned isn't a huge actor (I can't even remember his name... Jacob?) So maybe he wasn't hard to peg down the likeness rights too. Then you have Michael Keaton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Morisa Tomei, Jamie Fox, etc. Vulture didn't even get an unmasked head for the Deluxe re-release. Mysterio with no unmasked head is fine because you gotta display the fishbowl! BUT I doubt we ever see him in his CGI suit or an unmasked head at all. Aunt May you could argue is simply because Hasbro doesn't think she will sell, they haven't even made a comic version. I'd freaking buy her! I worry that Electro may become an issue due to this. I also worry about what this means for future characters we hope to have from the Spidey films who are portrayed maskless like Black Cat or Spider-Woman,(they actually wear masks haha but enough to cover likeness?) Norman, Harry etc. So no I'm not going to be surprised if these unmasked heads never get released. But I am going to hope that doesn't become the case. That ol' bully Maguire giving them hell over his pay cut haha. That's why they upped the price and got rid of plastic! Ah ha! It alp makes sense now. I'm done. Lol

The likeness stuff is complex and can also vary from actor to actor, especially if those sorts of things weren't taken care of beforehand in contract negotiation. The Legends team had hinted in the past that contractual stuff with older, pre-MCU actors was a major hurdle in getting to do the X-Men movie anniversary line (and may be why so many major characters like Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops were missing, as well as why neither Deadpool release had an unmasked head). They'd also said it was a potential issue for doing a similar anniversary wave for the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies (which ultimately wound up not happening). You'd think things were already all sorted out before the toys entered production, but evidently not.

Some actors also just don't like the idea of having toys made of them. It's rumored that's why there was almost zero official merchandise of Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker.

This is pretty concerning, but so far seems like it may be limited to Andrew Garfield. If it's announced the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man from S.H. Figuarts is also no longer coming along with an unmasked head, then it may be time to panic.

The weird thing is there was an unmasked head for Andrew as 6” back in 2012.

That was over 10 years ago he could have more agency now & decline & i can’t imagine funko has to pay the actors for likeness.

So I'm assuming as of right now, only the SHF is affected for Andrew?

If the same happens for the ML, that's going to really suck as it'd obviously be great to have all 3 of them unmasked.

But as long as I get my Tobey, I'll be happy.

I'm still hoping that perhaps Hasbro is able to include two unmasked Tobey heads. One from NWH, another from the original trilogy. But I'll take whatever I can get, honestly. I'm still very curious to see if Norman gets an unmasked head...hell, I'm curious which suit we're even getting for him.

Hopefully we see images soon. These are my most anticipated ML's for this coming year

My guess is this:



With the glider being the 'BAF' of the wave, and maybe a second head with no hood or goggles. If Norman gets only one head, I kinda expect it to be the hooded/goggle one.

I am also expecting the BAF to he the glider. Though I guess it could be Electro or Lizard possibly

Lizard would make a lot of sense since he'd be mostly or all reuse, and that may help balance the cost more for them. I guess if the glider is not the BAF, he'll probably come with only one head?

I dunno. They'll have been working on this wave for two years, presumably, by the time it's released. I'm hoping to have my socks knocked off at least a little bit.

Hot toys seems like the big one. Maybe Garfield found evidence to the conspiracy about hot toys taking a piece of actors' souls for their facial sculpts.
