Which I took to be the way he was suggesting that we should all be when looking for exclusives to minimize frustration.

I try not to hold it against the manufacturers too much. I get that each store probably wants more and more “essential” exclusives. Otherwise what’s the benefit to them.

The question we’ll never get an answer to is, why is NECA able to negotiate time window exclusives, where something could be at Walmart for six months and then Fan Channel. Or why Hasbro can’t say “yes, but our exclusive quantity needs to increase”.
Fair enough, but I think the manufacturers still have a major part in this. Retailers' lack of (good) online preorders and poor distribution take a major part, but it's still partly on the manufacturer for underproducing the products by a major amount and not working with their retail partners to get these exclusives properly distributed. (Granted, there's also COVID factoring into this right now.) The character selections frankly wouldn't be a problem to anyone if it weren't so difficult to get.

Whatever happened to the Walmart toy manager - or online toy manager - who kept posting on Reddit? Did Walmart fire him? I had high hopes based on the posts I saw, but those posts also showed he was too competent to work in Walmart management long, one way or another.

He's no longer with the company.

Walmart doesn’t admit they flubbed…so I never got more than an apology for me being mad I didn’t get my preorder of Ahsoka Tano.

Doctor Strange like Ahsoka Tano is a much bigger character than John Walker as Captain America…I don’t hold out much hope they will fill all their preorders.

Preorders with Walmart are very hit and miss.

That’s why I’ve been in the mindset that I’ve been in for the past handful of years. Figures have been getting increasingly better that I don’t really need any new versions of them, plus the slowly creeping price increase making collecting cost prohibitive. It’s been collecting with an end goal in sight.

Also I’ve resorted to completely begging and pandering

I remain consistently envious of both your Orb of Ra and your Green Bell of Uthool. Both of those I lack, in addition to the Evil Eye.

Is Walmart even putting it’s exclusives in-store now? Or are they online-only?

I have seen several WM exclusives in store over the past year, but it is hit and miss on which stores get them.

The only Wal-Mart exclusive I've seen in the stores in the last ten years or so have been those crappy all gold 3.75" Star Wars figure two packs.

I ordered Spider-Man Retros from Walmart and was sent House of X wave figures instead. That's how much faith I have in Walmart's online pre-ordering system.

That was the comic that got me into reading comics. Most of what I knew of comic characters before that was purely through cartoons, toys, video games. In general, the looks of characters in that series are what I want most in figure form (gimme that Heroes Return Iron Man!)

Still salty we never got dog-collar Kyle Rayner or a Krona CNC in DCUC

Also I need a 20” Terminus.

Anyone else feel like exclusives should be cheaper? They’re guaranteed sales for the retailer, very rarely go on clearance, and are usually a huge pain for collectors to obtain. We’re already incurring more cost to find the figures by driving to several stores.
Target exclusives usually can be had on steep discount. Unless it's GI Joe.
In which case it can’t be had… at all.
