Pixel Dan’s review of Magneto is up: https://youtu.be/YKKFW77kC1E

I love how this one turned out. That deco is basically the Diamond Select bust turned into an action figure which is exactly what I want from this line. That shadow-eyed portrait looks especially fantastic. This guy is going to have some serious shelf presence.

Looks great, definitely, but I'm really not sure about the articulation. If a Legends figure came out with wrists that don't hinge due to the cuff sculpt, the head were on a double ball joint with barely any range, the legs only hinged up about 30 degrees, the cape were that much of a hindrance, and the diaphragm joint barely moved like this one then we would be absolutely roasting Hasbro alive for it since they've progressed so far beyond all of that.

So hard for me to put these different lines into perspective these days. Hasbro catches it from all ends whenever they do anything that's not completely up to the standards of their previous figures, but then Mezco releases a Constantine with no ankle pivot or Mondo releases a Magneto with worse articulation than the last five or six Hasbro Magnetos and there's barely any commentary on it in their respective threads.

But it's Magneto, so since he mostly just stands or floats around in the end I'm sure I'll be fine with him. A huge part of the reason I passed on Wolverine was because the articulation is SO much worse than the 12-inch Legends figure, but I suppose it doesn't matter as much with Mags.

Question about Jubilee--why would Mondo make her a head shorter than Wolverine, i.e. 8 to 10 inches in full scale? She should be around his height, and Marvel lists her as taller with Logan at 5' 3" and Jubilee at 5' 5". I couldn't find a great pic of them together to see if that's how the animated series drew them, but the still below certainly makes them look around the same size like the comics did.

I don't mind the lack of articulation, I understand that's not what they're going for. The sculpt on these look great, the accessories are great. I'm not a fan of cell-shading on figures, but they do it really well, better than NECA's TMNT line, and much better than Hasbro's VHS figures. Magneto is my favorite character, so I was tempted to get him on his own to display separately, but I don't have the space (or money) to build a whole 12" team. But I ultimately passed on Magneto because the red hands bother me. I know they were red in the cartoon, but I don't care. I want them purple. For the price, that would have bugged me too much.

Yeah, I wish I would have preordered this guy. He looks great. I won't make that mistake when Gambit is solicited.

At this scale, the aesthetic strikes me as more important than articulation. There’s the customary concern of weight and the joints leading to stability problems, but mostly it’s about keeping a clean look while still retaining some pose-ability. This Magneto strikes a fine balance for me as Magneto is all about presence. He just needs to be able to hit some very basic poses and this should get the job done.

In the show, the official model sheet puts Wolverine at right around 5’3” to the top of his head and Jubilee at 4’11”. He should be close to a head taller. The Mondo Wolverine is a bit too tall if true 1/6 scale as he’s close to 11” when he should be around 10.3” or so. I’m guessing they just felt he’d look better if on the taller side. The show itself was hardly a model for consistency so I personally think the scale looks good enough.

Agreed on Magneto. At that scale, as long as the character can get in to a suitable pose, it's fine with me.

Is there anything about this specific release you're afraid of missing out on? Mondo gave us PLENTY of chances to get Wolverine after the original one came out, so I've been guessing they will do that for the others as well.

Wasn’t Magneto basically made to order? I thought for him the preorder window was open a week or two, and, as long as you placed an order in that window, you’re good to go.

I very much prefer that approach vs. the instant selling out there is for other Mondo stuff like the posters. I was able to get the Sentinel and Magneto posters that went on sale with the Wolverine and Magneto figures, but I had to order them at the exact drop time. They sold out within a minute.

I don’t think he’s made to order. Production had already started when the order window was opened plus they always make extra for any QC issues. It was likely open to retailers as well so the figure should be available in other places. Considering the price is high to begin with there probably won’t be much markup. I’m sure they probably made fewer units of Magneto than they did Wolverine, but I’ve never known Mondo releases to be hard to get at release. It’s only if you wait a few years where scarcity sets in.

Isn't this like the FIRST review of this figure? First I've seen. Does anyone else have it in hand? Seems like you're jumping the hyperbolic gun complaining about people not complaining.

I noticed for Magneto it says "timed exclusive" on Mondo's site. I'm not sure if that means only exclusive to Mondo and won't be available for purchase at other toy stores online?

I didn't follow their release of Wolverine closely, but I know they made multiple versions and not all were available to retailers. I've been assuming this first Magneto release would be exclusive to Mondo, but that retailers would get successive versions.

I was on the fence about ordering--and still am, really--but I did pre-order because I was afraid the next iteration of Magneto may not come with the magnetic hands, effects, hunk of twisted metal, and bendy cable, all of which looked pretty cool and like something I would regret missing out on if I passed on the first version and successive ones didn't come with all the same stuff.

Isn't that the way they packaged Wolverine? I can't fully remember, but my memory is telling me the original release of that figure had more accessories than the later releases.

The exclusive Wolverine was packaged to resemble him on the bed from the episode "Captive Hearts." The only exclusive accessory to it was the sad Wolverine head (and I guess the pillow, if you want to count it). It's likely the general release of Magneto will either feature different packaging art or likely drop one of the extra heads. I would be surprised if any of the effect parts were dropped, but Mondo hasn't elaborated on what's exclusive either so I suppose anything is fair game. If it's a head, it might just be the bearded one. Since the general release Wolverine still came with the Morph head I'm guessing Magneto will keep the evil version, but it's possible that one gets dropped (and many might prefer it since it's more of a gag than a real accessory).

Mondo just posted details for tomorrow's Jubilee sale (noon CST) which will also include a sale for the standard edition of Magneto which omits the Morph head and bearded head. The rundown:

Magneto - standard edition, ships February $215

Jubilee - standard edition, ships June $195

Jubilee - limited edition, includes skate parts and "Jubilee's Fairytale Theater" head, ships June $205

And for anyone looking to jump in, Wolverine is still in stock for $200 on Mondo's site and might be cheaper in other places.
