Have a WIP? Then WhIP it out! - thread 2.0

Fri Jul 24, 2020 10:28 am

Brining back our super popular wip thread because 2020 wanted to put its hands even on our beloved Fwoosh forum. Here's a pic of my almost completed McFarlane Superboy - I like parts I came up with, love that I was able to replicate almost the same S-shield colors but at the same time I'm disappointed with most of the paint job I did on him. Oh well, he'll look good among my other Supermen.

Someone had shown a work in progress on bravestarr and 30-30. If you are still around please keep us in the loop on that. I didnt save the pic but it looked amazing.

Such a shame that all the secret Santa threads and work in progress stuff was lost for 5 years. Perhaps an all inclusive secret Santa reveal thread for the years that left could be made so people could repost and see all those awesome figures that had been finished and sent out.

I really liked it. It's so well sculpted. The details are perfect.

Wow! Can't believe all those WIPs were lost. Well thought I'd contribute to the new thread with a WIP pic and a couple completed images of my latest completed custom (which I just posted in my new customs thread since my old one was blipped away as well). The head was originally painted by supertomcustoms, but I had to add a little drybrushing to get the color to match perfectly.

Lil WIP of a Cap I'm working on and a finished shot of his companion piece/where the rest of Duke went, my redesigned Commander Rogers. For suited Cap I'm going for an MCU/Ultimate Alliance 2/Marvel NOW original design. Marvel NOW torso, arms, belt and lower legs. Astonishing Wolverine KO feet and GI JOE CS Duke crotch, upper legs and kneepads and lastly, Mezco SK Batman wrist joints and hands. The shield, thats currently in the mail is the MCU 10 years Cap shield, I plan to spray the silver parts with clear pearlescent white to give it the classic white stripe and star look.

Commander Rogers meanwhile is Dukes torso, arms, hands, feet and head, Nick Fury legs (shortened at the thigh swivel), MCU Taskmaster belt and NOW Cap kneepads with a printed logo.ImageImage

Cont. WIP on Cap. All the grey on the boots, belt, torso and gloves is a base for the red. Made new stripes because the sculpted ones ground on the upper torso, scraping off paint, so I dremmeled them off and added aluminum tape to put them back in and globbed and smeared some superglue on to make a protector coat. Lots more work to do but I'm so happy with this ATM.Image

Haha, I wish I were able to just sculpt that. Each scale was glued individually, the SuperTom way. All in all, I think there's around 700 of them on the chest and arms.

Small change but a big deal and a huge PITA for me, I put a new lower torso/ab joint on Cap! From MCU Worthy Cap, I had to cut and chop and dremel and hollow out and glue stuff but hey, he doesn't have Marvel NOW Caps paint scraping ab joint anymore so I see this as an absolute win. Gotta prime the spots for my red stripes and get the placement better but this is working at least!Image

made Warpath's wrist things thinner, it just bothered me the way they look, doesnt help that they are super thick
so even when you thin them out they still look chunky
