That worked out. Both this and my non-turtle turtle were ready to ship so saved some shipping $$.

Herotoys Big Devil 1/10 action figure

Wed Nov 30, 2022 10:48 am

Just got the Big Devil in. Will take pics in the next day or so, but damn is this thing impressive. Don’t care about the game it’s sourced from, but it’s an awesome giant devil/demon for other lines to fight.

My tracking says mine couldn't get delivered and is now delayed.

That rarely ends well....

1. This guy is really spikey, handle with caution
2. Impressed by the articulation, for the most part its about what you'd expect from a design this bulky; but I was surprised with how much rom is in the neck. Usually with a design like this it'd be limited but we actually get a lot of tilt up and down plus side-to-side (and it doesn't just rotate on one axis).

How is it that furst time companies can nail an execution like this and Hasbro is still giving us single elbows on a Jedi and gummy Black Panther re-releases? And honestly, for not bad money, if this had been a Hasbro or Mattel release, they'd have wanted 250 bucks and the figure wouldn't be able to stand on his own feet.

1) Not confined to a budget or tooling costs other than their own pockets.

2) No stockholders to answer to, so they likely aren’t as concerned with profit margins.

3) Doesn’t need to run through any licensing approval since it’s unlicensed. Licensors frequently meddle.

But mostly the first one. If Hasbro had as much budget as they needed for each release you’d see some amazing things out of them.

Why does the praise of one company’s $100 figure turn into complaining about another company who doesn’t even have a similar price point SKU? Can’t one just enjoy how nice this piece is?

Well, because one company, with finite resources, just did an amazing figure, a praiseworthy piece indeed, for their first figure, while a much more established company, one with vast resources, has attempted to dip its toe into this price point, and even higher, and despite the know-how and resources, can't match this first time company's offering.

It's worth a question if for no other reason than to try to inform how to foster market competition for smaller producers. HeroToys is not c the only small producer making great toys, for now, but how do we the consumers keep them from becoming Hasbro 2.0, or more immediately, how do we make them viable long term so we keep getting great toys from them? Like, let's pretend this sold for them 1000 units... what can we do to get that to 3000 for their next piece?

Final note, I'm betting this sold less then 1000 units, but man, it needs to be on the high end of the "best of" lists for those who did get one. The engineering is great, the sculpt and paint are excellent, if this is HeroToys warm up, they deserve a much bigger platform. I'd be kind of surprised if they can repeat this in their sophomore effort, but if quality holds even with this, they are going to be huge.
