Not familiar with these characters, but Warduke looks like a Mythic Legion figure I had before.
The Mythic Legions figure was an homage to Warduke. Everything old is new again!

So here's something interesting: an upcoming D&D book, The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, has some very familiar characters among the miniatures being released for it.

The adventure is about a magic carnival that's also a portal to a Fey realm. I'm curious how the LJN characters connect, because the plot sounds like Something Wicked This Way Comes meets the D&D cartoon.

Warduke and Grimsword look great! I always wanted the original figures. Preordered them on shop.wiz kids.com.

Preordered them both - I have a lot of nostalgia for Warduke but I'm not familiar with Grimsword, but I want to throw my support for a line of figures that delves into D&D. I absolutely LOVED the Drizz't figure Hasbro put out and was bummed they didn't follow him up with anyone, but a seven inch scale Warduke next to a six inch scale elf works just fine for me, so they can absolutely be on display together.

Funny thing - those minis you posted, secondwhiteline, I completely forgot I preordered those. (I DM for a ton of people so I'm always just kind of randomly buying minis). Only remembered I preordered them when I went to buy these two figures on the D&D shop!

This might be a potentially interesting line but damn those are some of the worst character designs I've ever seen.

Warduke just looks wrong. I don't understand how it can be so "right" but also wrong at the same time. All the proper elements that make up the character are there, they just look totally off with this figure. I've been wanting a good Warduke in 1/12 scale (or close to it), I even bought the Mythic Legions almost-Warduke. But this doesn't scratch that itch. It almost looks like somebody snuck in while Warduke was showering, stole his clothes, and went to a renfaire.

Studying the promo picks some more, I begin to suspect that NECA is approaching the armor as a “skin” overlay, trying to create a “seamless” look. It seems particularly noticeable on Warduke, where the joints are visible on the bare figure, but not on the armored portions. Those armored parts appear to have more bulk than the corresponding bare limbs.
Similarly, I see a shoulder joint on Grimsword, but the elbow is covered by an overlaying armor piece.
It seems to me NECA is taking a stab at the “seamless” look for overlay parts, with an eye towards reusing the base body

I thought the joints weren't implemented yet, but it seems like some may actually be visible.
Can see the knee joint of Grimsword here.

I was convinced that the tease was for Warduke and Strongheart, and hoped against hope that they would get to Grimsword eventually. Shocked that he is one of the first two, and very excited to order him. His snake wrapped armor will look great going up against MOTU and Mythic Legions.
