I picked up Fantasia Mickey from the EE sale and it arrived yesterday. This is my first figure from this sub-line. I'm honestly not super impressed, just looking at it in the package. I haven't opened yet. I have the same version from the Toy Box line, which I like a lot. But this one has a much more classic sculpt. Not sure about the soft goods. I don't have any real intention of getting more figures, but seeing others' photos is pretty cool.

The longer I mess with Robin Hood, the more I lament what could have been. The figure is just okay at best. And at $55 that is not good. I still like him and am glad to have him in my collection, but he feels akin to a 90's toy in many ways. Poor leg articulation, and a cheap feeling plastic quality (very hollow like in many places). Most of the accessories go towards the stork, and I find those useless at this point.

This should be a home run, and instead it just is what it is. He's more shelf presence than hand candy and fun. Unfortunately that is mostly what this line is.

Getting Robin Hood at least got me to dust my Disney knick knacks shelf where Wave One resides with some other stuff. I was surprised to find that the Cleo bowl from the Pinocchio set was sweating at the base. The shelf is one of those black, plastic, things mounted onto the wall and it's apparently reacting to whatever Cleo is made out of. Nothing else has that issue. I put some felt in-between the two pieces after cleaning it up, but it was pretty surprising.

I'm well behind but never mind, I got wave two today and I'm kind of disappointed, For expensive figures they really don't deliver, I was really looking forward to alice and her paint apps seem to be non existent for a figure at this price point I expect more then the skin just being bare plastic, and she needed some sort of stand with those tiny feet she has. i am in two minds about if I should cancel my wave three pre order. The only area they seem to be really hitting it out of the park is with character selection (and it sounds like they are going to stuff that up) if I was to name my favourite disney animated movies it would be Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Lilo and Stich, dumbo and Robin Hood so it's like they read my mind, which is what makes the quality of these figures even more disappointing.
Having said that If I was in charge of the world and got to decided the line up of a wave heres what you would be getting.
The Cheshire cat and his main accessory would be the white rabbit.
Madam Medusa (I always enjoyed her much more then Cruella De Ville) her accessories would include tiny little rescuers and lets throw in the little girl and her bear
Lilo she would be a tiny figure and have no real obvious accessory so maybe she could come with a surfboard and a wave diorama that you could fit her and stitch onto.
Dumbo, hes going to be a fairly big boy but as long as he has Jeremy hes good to go.

I'm guessing the challenge of doing Dumbo (and I assume you meant Timothy instead of Jeremy?) is filling out a line to go with him. He might be that cost-prohibitive considering Super7 probably wouldn't attempt much articulation on him and thus reduce the amount of parts needed to be tooled. He probably wouldn't even need to be as big as Hyacinth. That said, after Timothy Mouse, who else gets a figure? Do fans of Dumbo really want any of the circus performers in plastic form? The stork? The crows are a nonstarter. If Super7 wants to do a Dumbo, maybe they can pair him with other one-off characters from Disney films and shorts or include him in a wave that fills out some of the other films they've only hit upon like Robin Hood and The Three Little Pigs.

I'm right there with you. Robin Hood is one of my all-time favorite animated movies and is up there with Ninja Turtles and Masters of the Universe with one of the most important movies of my childhood. Watching Super7 piss all over that nostalgia with their garbage decisions and worse quality is pretty damn frustrating.

Honestly, it would have been such an easy slam dunk for me. Just give me decent, not even great - just decent, figures of all the Robin Hood characters and I'd be all in. At this point, unless they do a Robin Hood 2.0 that fixes all the complaints from the first one, there's not a single Disney Ultimates figure I would ever buy.

I have been reconsidering my relationship with Super7 myself, in all of their lines. I love the character selection, the quality leaves me less than impressed (especially for the price). I want every character from the next wave. But I am considering canceling my pre-order and waiting for reviews.

I really liked the Hippo figure from the last wave. I don't have much in the way of complaints there. So I really want Ali-Gator from the next wave to be as good. I have some serious complaints about the rest of the last wave.

I don't think -anyone- should be pre-ordering S7 product at this point. At the very least. Not saying don't support the company if they're making figures you want. But every sane collector, at [email protected]#$ 55 dollars or more per figure, should be waiting to see how they turn out first. Or ordering with BBTS and hoping at least one honest reviewer gets their figure before BBTS does.
No one has any reasonable argument for pre-ordering S7 product, especially not from S7 directly, with the current state of their products.

Hyacinth Hippo is a fun figure (and easily worth the price if Blob is "worth" what they are selling him for), and I am hoping Ali Gator matches that level. I have him on pre-order still.

I don't have the total disdain for the Robin Hood figures that KD has, but was not thrilled. Having said that, if they made Little John and Maid Marian I would pre-order... I'm weak!

To be clear, though - I only have utter disdain for Robin Hood himself.
I am simply underwhelmed by Prince John due to the series of bewilderingly stupid decisions that were made when designing him. Primarily - making him incapable of sitting (like.. half of his whole THING) and not giving him the head and hand combo to suck his thumb (the whole OTHER HALF of his thing).

Also, he's one of those ones that really displays Super7's inability to make basic good decisions: We got three heads, and three crowns. Even though the crowns peg onto the heads. So... they could have just made one crown, and thereby left room for more hand options, or more articulation, or anything else that the figure actually needed. Because what the figure did not need was three of the SAME removable crown.

Robin Hood is kind of more the culmination of when those types of bad decisions aren't directly challenged by the consumer. He's just 100% more bizarre, bad decisions and even worse quality control (because most of us let the lacking QC on John slide). Devoting the majority of Robin's accessories to a disguise that easily could have been, should have been, and PRACTICALLY IS, a whole second figure was a horrible and indefensible decision. And like John, it left him lacking accessories and options he absolutely should have had to properly represent the character on the shelf interacting with other characters from the film.

To me, the Robin Hood figures are what you get when someone that doesn't care about or even know a property makes the toys. It's like they watched one or two clips of the movie on YouTube and just ..based a figure on that. It captures specific moments, but not the essence of the character of what most people who actually love the movie would probably want to do with the character in a display.

When we got Prince John, I don't recall a SINGLE person saying 'I hope when they make Robin Hood they devote 3/4 of the contents of the box to that one disguise he wore that one time in one scene.' But Brian Flynn likely remembered that one scene and so that's what we got.

Frankly, I'm surprised he didn't make a [email protected]#$ Robin Hood boxed set of all the characters playing soccer because he doesn't have a clue what even happens in this movie.

Edit: Just submitted this and gotta add: I am so sorry. I can't even stop myself from ranting about this because I really love Robin Hood and I wanted SO badly to love these figures.

Hey, the Stork idea was terrible, and the execution was worse. 110% agree. As someone else noted, they could have gone with the Fortune Teller disguise to actually interact with Prince John and it only would have needed a soft goods dress and a second head.

Didn't mean to rile you up! I've just decided to accept that I spent $50+ for a $20 Robin figure, but since I wanted one for 50 years, it is what it is.

Oh, I'm basically pre-riled about this line. I'm always on the verge of signing in -just- to complain about it because it really bothers me that much. I think Robin Hood might be the most disappointed I've ever been in my entire life - in terms of this hobby. I've never felt so utterly defeated (again, in regards to this hobby) as I did when I saw the utter trash this untalented, apathetic company shit out for one of my favorite movies ever.

And really, if they wanted to live up to the Ultimates title -- we should have gotten a fully loaded out regular Robin Hood, followed by (hell, make it a S7 store exclusive or whatever) fully kitted out 'disguises of Robin Hood' figure. Beggar Robin, Stork Robin, and Fortune Teller Robin are all actually very achievable with a base figure and practically the same number of extra parts many Ultimates figures already get. The primary sticking point would probably be only that it would require several different softgoods elements instead of the usual one-per-figure. But I still think it's -very- workable as an idea and could be costed out if done right.

I know.. I gotta let this go. But goddamn.

I'm all for movies being one and done in one box, and I think this themed waves thing is just going to ruin the line truth be told (wave four is an easy pass for me with out a second thought). That's why I suggested Madam Medusa with the rescuers as accessories, Its a movie in a box, if they can get the little girl (Penny) in as well that's icing on the cake. Again Dumbo with Timothy (the old mind plays tricks) as an accessory is all I need from the film and we can move on.

That's the thing that kills me with this line. These designs should play to Super7's strengths. They typically make good sculpts with poor articulation, but for a line of Disney characters that should play, but they botched it so terribly. Sorcerer Mickey should be great, but he can't stand and they decided he didn't need any paint hits so he's 75% of what he could be. I guess customizers look at a figure like that and see potential, but I'm not a customizer. They should have prioritized screen accuracy and paint apps with this line, instead it feels like soft goods and accessory count are the prime motivators. Characters from animation should "pop" when put on a shelf. Prince John is almost there, but again, crappy paint (and the many other issues already brought up) just severely harms his shelf presence. Robin Hood is the same, though I'd argue his sculpt isn't as good. And it's a 70s Disney film so it has a very distinct look to the animation that isn't even attempted by Super7, not that I would necessarily want them to go there as I don't think they could pull it off. I cancelled my Big Bad Wolf preorder, even though I really want to support them dipping into the shorts, but after getting Robin and looking at how that character will need to be engineered and I'm just not at all convinced it's a sure bet to turn out well. Plus, he's another character where nearly all of the accessories are devoted to a disguise. I only have Stitch on preorder now, and mostly because that's the one figure my family would be angry with me if I didn't buy.
