Raynir's Toys and Stuff

Space rock diorama Work in Progress

Image
Image
I mostly use the flat circle attachment on the hot knife to "sculpt" the rocks

Tools: box cutter, hot glue gun, hot knife, mini saw
Materials: Styrofoam, hot glue, mask, broom or vacuum since there's going to be a lot of foam debris!

1. Used the mini saw to cut the styrofoam from the icebox into large, medium and small pieces.
2. Used the box cutter for shaping and carving details into the large, medium, and small pieces of styrofoam.
3. Used the hot knife for carving and "sculpting" more details into the styrofoam.
4. Used hot glue to make connect two or more styrofoam to make levels/tiers.

First pieces I made.

DON'T use any type of spray paint or aerosol based paints. That stuff melts/dissolves styrofoam!

I’m sure you will paint them well but they look both terrestrial and extraterrestrial unpainted. Like frozen harsh terrain or comets those cosmic characters are being thrown into. They just need floating debris to convey the vacuum of space.

Outstanding. Looks like a fun project to try.

Prophet- I might leave some of the rocks unpainted or just make more for a frozen terrain like you mentioned. I'm also considering making some floating debris.
Thanks for the comment and yes it's definitely a fun project!

mister garbage- Thanks a lot! That comment made me laugh!

How the smaller rocks are connected and held up to the main impact asteroid diorama

Image

The small rocks are so light, a thin wire can hold them up.
