Lord of the Rings, Toybiz/Marvel customs & dio's: Orc Overseer

Mon Oct 13, 2014 1:26 pm

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Orc foot soldier, custom of the Orc Overseer with the newborn Lurtz.

I gave him an old playmobil knight's helmet. The club, shoulder pikes and shield and clothing are added.
The shield is cardboard with a covering of greenstuff.

I like the hair on the crossbow Uruk-Hai. That's tricky to put "real" hair on a figure that scale and make it look good.

Lord of the Rings, Toybiz/Marvel customs & dio's: Gandalf the Grey

Wed Oct 22, 2014 6:45 pm

________________________________________________________________________________________

Gandalf the Grey

The next figure is hero nr 1 of the Trilogy. The grey pilgrim, Gandalf; Mithrandir by the elves.
It is quite a custom. I made the cape, hood, staff myself and resculpted the face and added a lot of hair. The hat is made of alufoil covered with greenstuff.

The sword is not Glamdring, but one he had before that time. Okay, it was a nice one lying around, so I gave it.

The face is a 50% likeness to my opinion and the hat a tat too big, but I am pleased with the result.
Enjoy this grey wanderer of Middle Earth!

Thanks for the compliment, it is an effort.
I decided to do orcs with real hair and humans/elves with greenstuff.

Gandalf looks pretty sweet! I like the sculpt that you did on his face. To me it looks like a mix between the movie and the Rankin-Bass cartoon version which is pretty cool. I don't know why but I thought he would have real hair like the Uruk-Hai lol. I'm not really feeling his hat though. It looks a little blobby and indistinct. It isn't worthy of the rest of the custom. I love his staff, have you thought about getting a plastic gem and putting it in there? that would be cool. Great job!

I'd say the problem with the hat isn't so much the sculpt, as how high it sits on his head. If it were dremeled out a bit to sit lower, i think it would really help the overall effect

There is so much cool stuff on this page!! Those Ork's are eye candy. Gandolf looks great too, but I agree that the hat sits a bit high. I'd dremel the inside to lower it a bit too.

Thanks for the nice reactions!
About the hat: yes, it was up too high, so I dremeled it out.
When I constructed the hat, I made it fit to the head as it was at that moment.
After that I added greenstuff for the inside, an extra layer of hair AND stcikygum to keep the hat in its place... It fits more nicely now:

Looks good, not a huge fan of the hat though. Looks a bit comical for LOTR.
I'm getting lots of ideas from you for when I eventually start customising.
