Re: MAFEX Star Wars
Anne Hathaway was not very liked but the figure, the second didn’t pegwarm, it even sold out faster than the figuarts (which is not…great)

Are you suggesting Bo Katan will sell out fast, then? How fast? I don't know how long Catwoman 2.0 to sell out--was it before release, or maybe shortly afterwards?

Re: MAFEX Star Wars
Does it matter how fast?
The MAFEX Rogue One Vader pegged. He went on sale several times on HLJ for $50 or less. And people LOVE that figure, and he is certainly more popular in the zeitgeist than a specific version of Catwoman from an old movie.
Bo Katan is a great choice and will compliment their current SW lineup well, with Mando 2.0 and Boba on the way, and, apparently, Mando Luke and Ashoka waiting backstage.

Thanks I had never ever even considered amazon japan a thing. It's funny the ideas you never have.EnigmaticClarity wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 12:53 pm
Can't list everywhere because I usually only check four places, and for those Hobby Search is out, eBay has her, Amazon has her, and Amazon Japan has her.

Re: MAFEX Star Wars
Again agree to disagree. You think she’s gonna be a pegwarmer, I don’t. As others have said there’s been plenty of crazy popular “definitive” Mafex SW figures that have been available for long periods of time. R1 Vader, both Boba Fetts, Mando, etc. That doesn’t make them pegwarmers. In fact in my experience the only Mafex figures that sell out immediately and are impossible to find are comic figures. Which I would say is more a testament to the respective popularity levels of say Marvel versus Star Wars. At the end of the day Mafex clearly believes she‘ll sell or they wouldn’t have made her. And honestly it really doesn’t matter to me anyway. It’s a gorgeous figure, I already ordered it and I’ll be all kinds of happy when it arrives. And from the comments I’ve read here and on lots of other media platforms, I’m not alone in feeling that way.EnigmaticClarity wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 2:30 pmI’m not gonna continue to argue with you.Parintachin73 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 2:20 pmAgree to disagree. Comparing Bo to Mera or Gwen-pool is apples to oranges. Gwen-pool is a cult character that’s never been in the mainstream lexicon and Mera is a side character in a meh movie. Bo has been in CW, Rebels, and is now the co-star in the most popular SW thing in decades. Katee Sackhoff gets second listing in the credits behind Pedro. She’s been in more episodes than IG-11, who certainly didn’t pegwarm. Is she gonna sell as well as Mando? Probably not. But she’ll still move units imo
Any character comparison is apples to oranges, but Mafex chooses so few characters below the A or B list in any franchise that there's not a deep basket of oranges to draw from. Did you have better Mafex examples in mind more comparable to Bo Katan? You listed IG-11 as a possible comparison, but he's currently peg-warming every retailer who sells Mafex--which confuses me given that you asserted the opposite. Maybe you meant an older version of IG-11?
So again--if you've got a better Mafex comparison for Bo Katan's popularity level please do share.

Anyone know why that is? Again that precedes my time with Mafex so I have no insight, but my guess would be that the issues with the previous Vaders--and the line in general at that point--left a poor taste in Mafex Star Wars collector mouths. When I first started watching Mafex reviews in 2019 I vividly recall D Amazing, Boog, and Robo talking about how they were glad to see Mafex finally getting over all of their QC issues from the time when that Vader was released.

With Star Wars... well, you're right, the best Bo Katan figure ever will likely not sell as many units as the best Batman figure ever. But it's still a great choice for developing their line. I don't think MAFEX should just make the most household namey characters out there, and they seem disinterested in doing that as well.
Re: MAFEX Star Wars
Probably a lot of factors, including what you said about QC rep and how that changed. But I think supply and demand as well. On the supply side, sometimes MAFEX just might make more figures, and continue to reprint them. On the demand side, some characters like Darth Vader, even if done well, have been done before, even in high end--there are a couple of Figuarts, and some good Black Series versions. A lot of MAFEX figures are still available, and some go on sale. Their Terminator is still readily available. The only ones that really have been hotcakes are their superhero figures, and I think that's because there has been a demand for high quality/import quality bog standard versions of these iconic characters for a very long time. IMO Marvel Legends are just an entirely different game from most MAFEX comic figures, and people realize that, and once people started collecting them, they wanted the whole line, which created demand from people who slept on figures like Gambit. The Hush Batman was a game changer, and is still today, again IMO, the best normie looking Batman figure for the display.EnigmaticClarity wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 2:57 pmAgentLionel wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 6:25 pmThe MAFEX Rogue One Vader pegged. Re: MAFEX Star Wars
The reason why the Rogue One Vader pegwarmed hard was because of the reputation Mafex had with QC Issues, they were starting to get good but people were on the fence. A lot of people passed on that Vader out of fear to have the same dud as the original one, me included.

I don’t remember RO Vader peg warming much. Everyone saw how good the helmet was with the red lenses - it was going for like $200+ on eBay from what I recall and still is.

eBay attracts some of the least researched purchasers on the planet, I feel. Though it might be a hot ticket in 2023
Re: MAFEX Star Wars
It went on sale on HLJ several times around Christmas. I finally bit when he hit around the $45 mark, maybe 2021? I kept an eye on several MAFEX SW figures because they went on sale so often on HLJ.Rageasaurus wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 3:25 amI don’t remember RO Vader peg warming much. Re: MAFEX Star Wars
I could still get it one year ago for less than Retail, so yes, I think we can safely assumed that it pegwarmed.

Re: MAFEX Star Wars
Has any Mafex sold out quickly lately? last I remember are the hush batman and superman and gambit, but those were reissues so probably smaller run and the originals were the best representations of those characters so far.
