7 inch Page Punchers: Wild @$$ speculation thread.

Fri May 20, 2022 12:41 am

Essentially, where to from here?

DC’s top two characters and two anti-heroes done in the first wave. Where can this line take us now? Your best guess, not your wishlist. OK, maybe a little wishlisting is fine.

My next two waves guess is…

Wave Two
Nightwing (current)
Wonder Woman (Rebirth)
Joker (Bermejo)
Superboy (90’s Conner Kent)

Wave Three
Red Robin (Kingdom Come)
Supergirl (Barry Kitson)
Guy Gardner
Hawkman (Rags Morales)

It seems to me that the comic, which is an all-new comic for wave 1, is important to the figures.

I'd guess that Todd spent a pretty penny producing the comic with DC's Custom Publishing department (the same division that makes comics like the Subway/JLA or the This Island Island Bradman Bar Mitzvah comic) and is offsetting that by packing the same comic four times.

On top of that, the figures are all sculpted and colored to look like cover artist Lee Bermejo's designs.

So I'd wager each wave will get an original comic book featuring all of the characters in the wave and that we'll get high profile cover artists with figures designed around the cover artist's style, like DC's old DC Direct Designer Series figures.

Yeah I am down for all of that. I love comic art and giving us a new artist to celebrate every 6 months or so is cool.......BUT I don't really want that if we're just gonna get the Big 2 each time.

I would like to see Hawkman make his entrance here and some Parademons. I also think those Deadshot and Deathstroke leaks might be a part of this program. Either way I am really into it.

I hope he does SPAWN page punchers to celebrate his cover artist as well.

Well if it’s artist inspired, that’s a different ballgame.

Perez
Ross
Shaner
Van Sciver
Reis
Jimenez
Hairsine
Lee
Sale
Byrne
Capullo
Ordway
Janin

To start.

I'd rule out Byrne, Van Sciver, and, sadly, Perez from doing new DC books unless this line switches to reprints.

On the other hand, I'd say the door is wide open not just for contemporary artists but for Elseworlds, new and old.

This could be where Todd does Batman '89 stuff with Billy Dee Two-Face or other newer characters. Just pack-in a comic and you can do anything.

Bombshells, Gotham by Gaslight (with new characters), Cowboy Supergirl, Roman Centurion Captain Marvel, Earth-23 President Superman.

This stuff might not be feasible at mass retail without a built in audience but pack in a comic that introduces the figures in the wave and suddenly you're potentially onto something.

I’m all for this!

Either an all New comic or even a reprint of a Classic with 4 figures from that issue is a great tie in.

Steel
Eradicator

Infinity Inc. 1 Ordway

I wouldn’t mind seeing more sean gordon murphy white knight stuff show up. Harley, redhood, batman beyond, etc.

Bermejo joker is still one of my top wants. His twoface is also usually very cool.

I can see that being a really smart way to sell entire waves. A kid gets one because its got Batman and reads the comic and now wants the other 3 because they were awesome in the comic. Would require at least one or two big name characters to pull in casual collectors and kids but it gives. chance to introduce lesser known characters (like Constatine) to a broader audience AND sell them on why the character is cool and you should want a figure of them. I hope these do really well.

They're also a great way to sell costume redesigns like Black Adam. If he wears the alternate costume in the comic, it's true to the source material.

Imagine if instead of selling those Todd McFarlane redesigns by themselves, they were featured in a comic Todd did covers for that was included with figures.

If they wanted to throw us an all-villain Bermejo wave with:
-Joker
-Two-Face
-Croc
-Penguin

that would be . . . just fine.

Can Todd call every artist to make this for him?

Let's say Alex Ross, could he make a art for these comics?

Now that Dan DiDio is gone, it’s likely Ross would work with DC again.
