All that sounds great. Happy to hear we're getting a kind, optimistic Superman again, especially with Gunn being a fan of Morrison and King, and that they're finally taking another crack at Green Lantern. Swamp Thing has a lot of potential too.
Supergirl was another curveball but could be awesome if done right.

To Gunn's credit though, the proposed Slate is actually really interesting. Has the potential to rival Marvel.
Just the DC TV shows alone for HBOMax could be heavy hitters (if on par with other HBOMax programming like The Last of Us);
Peacemaker S2
Waller
Green Lantern
Themyscira
Booster Gold
I heard a rumor yesterday that they are going with an older 'father figure' Batman for the DCU, that's why I posted that leak.
I'm disappointed that it involves Damian, a really obnoxious character. It's going to be a tough sell to have a little kid physically overpower trained adult warriors in battle.
That's the only project I'm not so jazzed about.
Gunn's take on Superman sounds fantastic.
Really shines a spotlight on why the Zack Snyder version fundamentally failed from it's inception.

Sounds interesting but yeah, knowing WB, everything besides Superman and Batman may end up cancelled.

The concept for that film sounds really great though, a 14 year old Supergirl in the post-apocalyptic Krypton. I'm glad they are making her different than Superman. That's the way to go
Re: DC General Thread
That film probably won't be coming out till near 2030... Crazy to think that the actress to play that role is probably in Elementary School right now.

Re: DC General Thread
Nice.
After taking a bit to digest, and because no one asked, my take on the Gunn/Safran plan.
Having a plan is a good start. Expect Jim Lee to begin to mirror some of this soon.
MOVIES
Superman and Batman and Robin will be fine. Playing the Morrison card works all around. As for Supergirl, I read part of that King mini series and hated it. Ugh. Tom King should stick to Batman related projects only.
Swamp Thing as a straight up horror movie has the potential to be extraordinary.
Authority: Depends on how it’s done. IMAX all the way. My preference would to not stray from Ellis and do a Sliding Albion movie.
TV
Green Lantern buddy cop series with a mystery that goes to the core of the DCU. Sounds about par.
An Amazon series that taps that Game of Thrones vein. Could be worse. A lot worse.
Waller: Not my favorite character. Much like John Constantine, her ends justify the means attitude leaves me cold. The fact that she’s a civilian in a super world sorta sends up the red flags for me too. And again, like Constantine, it just bothers me that she seems to never face the consequences for her actions. I like to root for the good guys when I can.
Booster Gold: If ya wanna know how good this could be, read Booster Gold vol 2, 0-31 and the Vanishing Point mini series. If you can find ‘em.
Creature Commandos is the absolute shit. It’s without a doubt one of my favorite DC mini series of the last 25 years. Written by Tim Truman, drawn by Scott Eaton, this was an eight issues series set in the not too distant future. And it’s all about why monsters make the best heroes. It’s never been collected or reprinted. Now it’s practically assured. Maybe Frankenstein: Agent of S.HA.D.E. can get a reprint too. And maybe a new comic series as well.
Creature Commandos is my dream McFarlane box set.

Other than Waller/Constantine (love them, favorite characters for sure) and Supergirl (I haven’t read the King stuff so I can’t comment), I’m pretty much on your page, Tommy. And I mean, come on: Creature Commandos and Todd McFarlane are a match made in . . . well, in some dark and creepy and awesome place. Make it so.

I think it was a mistake to keep Viola Davis or talk about keeping other actors in roles. It just confuses things and opens them up to more criticism.
Viola Davis and many of these actors are great but it feels weird to turn the page on some but not all.

As for the rest, I still think Miller needs to go regardless. But Gal, Jason, and Zach are the beating hearts of the franchise. I was very upset about Gal and Patty Jenkins. These two ladies showed us what it could be with the first movie, and promptly shit the bed in the next. IMHO, Gal Gadot should be the face of the franchise. I hope she decides to return.
Re: DC General Thread
Viola Davis is an amazing actress. She made me hate her. I cheered when her staff bashed her in the head in SS II. I’d still prefer CCC Pounder, but at 70, might be a little too old for the part. If you’re keeping Cena as Peacemaker, ya gotta keep her.PG-Superfan wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 4:51 amI think it was a mistake to keep Viola Davis or talk about keeping other actors in roles. Re: DC General Thread
I'm sure I'll go see all the movies and watch all the shows, but nothing on that list really leapt out and made me go "Hell yeah!! All right!!"
The DC thing I was most pumped for was "Batman The Caped Crusader", and they pretty much sh!t-canned that, so that dampened my enthusiasm quite a bit. No one has ever gotten DC as right as Bruce Timm (and Company). They should have put him in charge.
The Batman movie might be interesting, but I'm not a super big Robin (or Grant Morrison) fan, and I don't like them starting out Batman 8 or 9 years into his career. That sounds like it would be a better second movie. But what do I know. I'm just an idiot fan who spends all his money on this crap.

Also, fans of Grant Morrison: All-Star Superman. Fantastic book. He nailed it. And I don’t remember an edgy, morally gray Superman there. Pretty bright and optimistic.

So are we getting a murky, morally gray pg-13 Superman (sounds horrible) or are we getting an optimistic, kind Superman?Hbhf wrote:All that sounds great. He said superman is a guy that stays positive and optimistic in a world where that is out of style. Sounds like Clark to me.
I’m very excited to (hopefully) be getting passed the angsty, neck-breaking superman and the machine gun shooting, murderer batman.
The biggest take away for me, though, is the emphasis on giving screenwriters, directors and other creatives more control to see their visions through.
That could be the real significant difference vs the mcu that will hopefully make both sandboxes more unique

Re: DC General Thread
I think the best way to handle Damian in the beginning is to go full Hit-Girl with him (Matthew Vaughn to direct, anybody?). Perhaps it's why they chose Damian...Dick & Jason fist fighting adults doesn't really work, but a trained assassin who usually carries a sword? You can make that work as long as you're making a comic book movie, and not a serious crime drama where the good guy dresses up like a bat. Establish the fantastical right away, and the audience will follow you.K_Steel wrote:Shinigami_PL wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 8:08 pmhttps://www.dc.com/blog/2023/01/31/the- ... =199349240

If all of this results in a comic-based Midnighter figure I'll consider it a win. Everything sounds fun, but my only tickle of concern is how you keep Damian young in live action.
