Storm Collectibles is jumping into proper 1/12th scale figures, supposedly at around a $25-30 price point, starting with Street Fighter Alpha 3 versions of Ryu and Ken

Very, very curious to see how this line plays out. On an aesthetic level I think these kick Jada's ass (Although I'm biased because the Alpha games have always had my favorite aesthetic of any Street Fighter), but it remains to be seen how deep they're gonna go with the roster and how timely they'll be about getting these out (something which Storm has historically struggled with)
Oh, of course they decide to go into 1/12th proper AFTER the MK license was put on hold.
Storm makes good stuff. Like Jada, Hiya, and Joytoy, I just need them to acquire a license I care about.
That’s a good price point if true. I’ll remain open and wait to see more in hand videos.
I hope these scale with Jada so we can just fudge them together. I generally prefer the sharper body sculpts on Storm's figures, and have to admit these are more appealing than Jada's Ryu and Ken (partially due to SF2 vs Alpha, Alpha's style is preferred to me), but it would still be neat if they could all live together on the same shelves. Two rival companies making figures of the same franchise at the same scale...talk about giving power to the consumer!
I mean... I would be absolutely stunned if these actually come in at the $30 they are suggesting. If they do, it means the prices they've been charging for their 1/10th scale stuff (because it's not 1/12) up to this point has been highway robbery. A typical Storm Collectible figure has been in the $70 - $100 range for awhile now - more for some of the bigger guys.
The "1/12 scale" Blanka I have pre-ordered through BBTS right now is $95. If they can do true 1/12 scale for a third of that it drops the bottom out of their existing market, right? I'd have to say I'm skeptical.
I wonder how Jada is feeling about this. Are they also not making Alpha figures in relatively the same scale? I thought there was some kind law or something between companies making the same characters from the same title in the same scale or is that just internet rumors?
i wonder though what will be the price point of their larger figures? Jada said $30 for theirs. Maybe $50-60 for Storm?
Either way, I will collect from both companies if Storm really delivers. Not really feeling figuarts or Revoltech.
@panthercult to be completely fair, while Storm's standard figures are expensive, with the SF stuff among their most expensive releases, those figures are generally packed with accessories, big effects, inventive articulation/engineering and softer plastic upper torsos. The Arena 6" figs look closer to your standard Hasbro or Jada toys in terms of design, and that feels like trying to cut cost as much as they can.

I don't believe there is a "Law" - it comes down to licensing agreements, how the contracts are worded, etc. Most companies pay for some degree of exclusivity in their licensing agreement - whether that be in a specific market or a specific scale or both.
For example - when McFarlane picked up the DC Comics license for action figures he did so for the american and european markets in the 5 to 7 inch scale... that left Spinmaster to pick up a license for 4" figures and also bigger 12 inch toy aisle figures.
But for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that license has gotten kind of crazy. For awhile Playmates had it pretty buttoned up. But then Nickelodeon opened a specialty license to NECA where they could do convention sets and specialty store releases but that was all. Then that got expanded and they were able to do more. Then the license got opened up wide and Super7 was let in to do their thing, while NECA is doing like 4 different lines of Turtles while Playmates is still cranking out Turtles products and Loyal Subjects is doing Turtles too... When Nickelodeon pulled the exclusivity out of the licensing agreements opportunity exploded.
Storm Collectibles has had a license for Street Fighter that was for the asian market only. They are an import product only here. That's why Jada Toys was able to get a license for the US market and sell on store shelves here. It is unclear to me whether this new iterations of smaller Street Fighter figures from Storm will still be asian market and import only or if they are now entering the us market as a direct competitor to Jada and if the license is non-exclusive. It's possible it was done that way by Jada to keep the license cheaper? Who knows... certainly not me.
@panthercult I see. Well more options for us then which is good. If these are in the realm of $25-30, that is going to be great. I’m still very skeptical of Storm’s commitment and output to SF so I will be cautiously watching.
Gimme all the Street Fighter Alpha guys, I'm so down.
I’m in for those Cho Aniki figures.
Definitely down for some SF Alpha figures from Storm at this price point.
I’m down for another Ryu, but only because my Jada version is from the initial run and the dark paint came off the hair and eyebrow in places. Otherwise, I’m going to hold off for Jada stuff to the extent possible. Might just pick up Guy, my favorite alpha character, if they get to him.
I will pick up any Fatal Fury and King of Fighter characters though.
