Yeah the texture really does make me think I'll pass on these.  I'm ok with the original Playmates Turtles, though.  I don't mind their limited articulation.  It's more other characters I wanted to see in this line.  Like if they did Shredder, who really was stuck in a terrible pose, I'd probably pick him up.  Especially of they did Toon Shredder.

Haha, leave it up to Playmates to just miss 100% of the shots they try to take at the collector market. I'll reserve judgement until we see some reviews, as I'm hoping the texture is just really showing up due to being a computer render with weird lightning. But those swivel ankles are a definite bummer.

What also gets me, and I haven't seen discussed, is how undersized those bases are. They stood out the first time I saw these. Like, the pizza slices and rooftop details are all meant for figures half this size. The pizza is just barely bigger than their toenails.

Also seems misleading to even think of these as "collector" grade turtles. I'm not really seeing anything different from the current Mutant Mayhem turtles aside from maybe more paint and the inclusion of the bases. They're about as cheap so I guess not much more was expected, but these are just lame.

Now those "first turtles" or whatever they're calling them that are going to Target, they actually look pretty neat for what they are and I might end up with those.

My place as the black sheep in the community stands strong - I like the texture.  Are reptiles suddenly known for being silky smooth?  C'mon now.  I like they're doing this line following suit of other 80s lines adding modern-ish articulation to the originals.

Are reptiles known for being skilled in martial arts? These are fiction! And in this incarnation, they've never been shown to have that gross pimply texture. They should be smooth. There's a place for adding touches like that, but this ain't it. It's a shame.

I'd be ok with a little texture but this looks like extreme acne scarring all over their bodies.  I'm hopeful the harsh studio lighting (or possibly render?) is making the texture look much more stark than it actually is.  Playmates has a record of going heavy with "grit" though (look at their "Mirage" turtles) so I'm not holding my breath.

If I'm being honest I'll probably still grab at least one of these for $13 just to check it out.  I've wanted something like this for too long to dismiss them entirely without even holding one.

Movie Star Turtles have random bumps here & there. Convex.

These are pocked completely over the entire surface. Concave.

And while I wouldn't hold it against them for swivel wrists, swivel ankles is a step backwards even for them, as they've been using hinge & swivel ankles on their "premium" Turtles. So, instead of angling the hinge peg for rockers, they go with a basic cut.

I'll keep saying it: the person or persons in charge of TMNT at Playmates is incompetent, not just in regards to TMNT, but 2024 children's toy manufacturing in general, and needs to be fired.

I see they are finally making the Teenage Mutant Smallpox Turtles now.  One of my childhood dreams fulfilled.

Well yeah since the 90s I'd say so.  I was actually referring to PixelDan's comments about Turtles being smooth but didn't reference him.  Personally I find this more interesting than the smooth finish and like what they did.  Not surprised of course that everyone fucking hates it.  I find them far more appealing than Super7's Ultimates and are a fraction of the price  😏

Probably half the size, 3/4 the articulation, 1/4 the accessories too.

I'm glad someone likes them. You can be the guinea pig! Give us a thorough review. For now, the more I look at those figures, the more heebie jeebies I get. That texture is just really gross and unnerving to me.

I grabbed the bundle of all four 2003 Turtles but now I have an extra Raph and Mike I’ve been waiting to pair with Leo and Don. Don’t know why those two have been so elusive all this time, I picked up the other two around Christmas.

I really hope the Amazon exclusive technodrome reissue is a real thing.  I don't have a ton of old TMNT stuff, but I've wanted one for years.
