These 2k3 reissues look like the rare Playmates reissue that might be better than the vintage. I like the new matte finish, though it looks like the plastron linework may be something to watch out for. Mikey’s looks overdone in this video. They also still struggle to reproduce Raph’s shade of green, but here it looks way better than some of the ones we’ve seen.
I’ve only stumbled on Raph and Mikey so far, and that was almost a month ago. Haven’t seen any since, let alone Leo and Don, which I still want.
The originals I had were the ones that wore trash armor. They had slightly more articulation with hinges at the knees, ankles, and maybe elbows? But they also had hinged fingers that couldn’t hold weapons well.
I love that they're finally doing reissues for the 2003 series. I'll have to keep an eye out for them the next time I'm out grocery shopping. Hopefully they'll do reissues of some of the other characters. I'd absolutely be in for Splinter, April, and Shredder.
Found the 2003 TMNT Figure re-releases at a Wal-Mart today. I never had these figures. Growing up with the 80's/90's Turtles, I just didn't buy any of this 2003 line when it was out. For $9.99 each, and as cool as they look, I had to pick these up.
After opening them up, they feel like they are pretty nice quality. I'm happy to add them to the collection.
Still haven't seen them myself, but I've only been out looking twice. Hopefully these are getting as wide of a distribution as the 80's Turtles got, rather than the more spotty distribution some of the other reissues have been getting. I don't think I ever saw Shredder or Splinter in-person.
Only found one Raph with a bent card once. Wouldn't keep them sealed like the 87 line, especially since they're on the wrong cards, and despite being a little dusty & sticky (BECAUSE OF AGING PLASTIC, I DON'T DO DIRTY THINGS WITH MY TOYS lolol), I still have the originals. Now, if they get past the handful of figures I already have, and give me second chances to get figures I never did & are going for a lot on eBay like Baxter or Usagi...
Still looking for "87" April (don't like the orange, but it's still the same mold on the vintage card)...

As much as I want this line to be a thing that really takes off that texture comes close to killing the enthusiasm I have for these. WOW. Just awful execution by Playmates. At least they've got some ankle articulation (just a swivel though).
Ugh, god. Going off of the original pic, I thought maybe their limbs were a little extra vein-y or something, but no. That texture really is gonna be a major dealbreaker for me.
Maybe it won’t look as bad in person, but from that photo, the texture looks fucking gross.
Shitty ankles and god-awful texture - no, thank you. About the only thing nice is the price of $13. Leonardo and Donatello look like dried-out turds left on a sidewalk.

That texture is weird. I don't know what they were thinking. It's like they were trying to do Toxic Crusaders TMNT. I want to see them in person before deciding if I will get them but based of those pics........that bumpy, boil filled skin texture really kills my enthusiasm.
And with that texture, I'm out.
Probably for the best. Shouldn't be starting a new line anyway, but would have made an exception here if they were done even half way decently but Playmates has seemingly once again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
They look so gross that I don't even want to touch them physically. That's such a bizarre choice on their part.
Reserving judgement until I see them in person. That said, the texture doesn’t bother me at all. I’m getting Movie Star turtle vibes.
