I think if you used the far left head for each of them you'd have a pretty decent set... except for Donatello. All of his portraits are solidly in the marketing/cartoon camp, and that looks terrible on those bodies IMO. Meanwhile Raph doesn't have a goofy head so like hayden said above, there's not even a matching set of four expressions here. So strange.
They look like the costumes from the Disney World parade from years ago. Seriously, that's a lazy variant since the bodies do not go at all with those heads, but good luck to those who want it.
I like em. I could never stand the child friendly look of the cartoon but did like the different colors. only thing missing for me would be some bloody battle damaged interchangeable limbs and stuff.

the heads have texture...not all neca smooth cartoony. a beat up one of each would have been nice though.
being into the turtles pre cartoon I just never liked that look but for some reason liked the idea of each having their own color. I may end up painting all the eyes solid white.
I was brutally tempted by the first set. This one? Not so much. Congrats to those that want it.
Yeah these are just kind of...shit. I don't know what they had in mind when they came up with this plan of doing "cartoon turtles." But the heads do not work on those bodies.
I actually did get my normal set a few weeks ago after the waitlist converted. They are definitely nice figures, and fun to mess with, but they aren't perfect (what is?) My main gripe is them not having proper ankle hinges and rockers. Just ball joints. That feels like a miss. I also do kinda sorta hate how delicate they feel. Those sewn belts and packs and this and that all make me nervous about moving something the wrong way and pulling things apart. At least the heads and hands are super easy to swap.
Should have gone with all red bandanas.
To be honest, the texture on the Mezco set isn't too visible in hand were it not for the paint washes. I have to get up close and personal to see a lot of the detail. If these are painted solid, they'll read a lot less hyper-real in person.
However, they certainly are not to my taste. One thing I kinda like about them? They look more "style guide" than the NECA style guide turtles, like you'd see on the miles of near-bootleg merch that was put out in the early 90's. They remind me of the turtles I'd see on a mylar balloon.
The glassy, wide-eyed look is awful. They look hypnotized and emotionless. The expressive faces are better, but I don't think the playful cartoon style matches the gritty texture of the bodies.
Alright, @normdapito, I got on the Waitlist for the first set. Anytime you wanna loan me that $400 without interest is good with me... 😆
So on another forum I have heard now from a few members that were on the waitlist for the first set. Latest one to convert waitlisted on March 2. So the line starts somewhere around that date to get the first set.

Looks like the Casey Jones they showed off forever ago is going up (SURPRISE!) tomorrow at 1pm EST.
This is THE dream Casey figure that I've been asking for. I can't wait to see the accessories line-up! Especially for a possible unmasked head. It's cool they include some alternate sports equipment hands alongside the fingerless gloves we initially saw, and multiple masks at least.
Does Mezco charge at the preorder? Or at ship date? I won't have the funds for him for likely another two or three weeks... I hope he lasts.

If you pay with a debit/credit card, it's not charged until it's "shipping", BUT you WILL need to update the payment information FOR THE SPECIFIC ORDER, because Mezco's site is garbage and can't hold info for more than 3 months. Otherwise your order will get cancelled after about 3 attempts.
If you pay with PayPal, you obviously pay upfront, but don't have to worry about watching for their emails.
I'll be stuck at work, so I hope he'll last until later in the evening when I'm off and home (not likely).
@salemcrow Thanks for letting me know. God I wish he could just be on BBTS, that'd solve every issue imaginable. I guess I'll just pray aftermarket ain't bad on him. (also not likely)
@protozoalord If by some chance it sells out fast, just get on the waitlist ASAP. That seems to come through 8 times outta 10.
