I only admired them from afar as they were a bit rich for my blood, but looks like Heat Boys is now doing transforming TMNT mechs as well:
Still way too expensive for me, but it's nice this is only $5 more than the regular ones, I guess.
Some folks got shipping notice for Mikey, and now they have announced a Krang too.
Personally, I watch these at 2x speed with the sound off, but that's quite the engineering feat:
That’s Masterpiece level engineering. Probably a little bigger than Masterpiece scale too. Very impressive.
Don's been up for pre-order fairly recently, and unsurprisingly looks cool as heck:
What's the deal with the regular (non-transforming) Leo in this line? He was released last year already? Why does BBTS still have him up for pre-order? Anyone know what that's about, is it a second run or what?
Replying to myself: BBTS has this one in stock again, so I guess I've answered my own question.
Shanghai Wonderfest happened, and I haven't seen much coverage of these guys except this video Heat Boys posted of the whole booth on Facebook:
Part ways in you can see the TMNT stuff, which is mostly protos in various stages of development of figures we already knew about: Shredder, Splinter, April, and Krang. But near the end they actually show something new, which seems to be another of the transforming mechs, this time Raphael as a tank. Little strange that the first one turns into a TMNT vehicle and the second doesn't, but I'm interested to see how this little subline shakes out too.
From the comments on that, I just learned that the transforming Don is apparently a chopper. Bombusbee's got a pre-order up: https://www.bombusbee.net/heatboys-hb0019-donatello-p6123.html
And now HeatBoys joins the list of Chinese companies making TMNT figures. Non-mech this time. I've seen speculation based on the name that they're 8" scale: https://twitter.com/preterniadotcom/status/1841298779879707099
Interested in seeing more.
edit:
and here's more. 23cm tall
Interesting to see how popular this aesthetic is becoming with toy producers. If there wasn't a glut of turtle product in the market there sure is now. It's becoming hard to find something not being addressed by someone somewhere. It's basically Next Mutation and Bay Turtles that are being left out. Nevertheless, if you like the look of the Joy Toy turtles but not the scale, these look like a pretty reasonable substitute.
I like these better than the Mety Toys ones so I’ll say it here: I’m glad we’re living in a golden age were there’s so much goddamn Ninja Turtle product pouring out two completely reasonable and awesome lines can be revealed in one day and I can say “oh no, thank you! I’m good!”
also, it’s absolutely insane these are NINE INCHES TALL, like I think people looking at pictures are imagining like Nude Ronin or a Super7 Turtle and thinking “yeah, big Turtle!” Like no… these are almost as big as Chrome Dome, almost as big as that recent Marvel Select Hulk people bought because it was bigger than the Big Legends Hulk…
these might be too big
I was joking with my wife I should get a Mety Toys Leo, Donnie , and Mikey but a Heat Boy Raph since I’m such a fan of Rise, and they’re similar enough in style he’d make a great “Big Raph”, also I should get Heat Boy Donnie and put him next to Bane, like in that Batman comic were Donnie took Venom but learned the real strength was the friends you made along the way (which doesn’t really make sense, since the Foot Clan thought Bane was pretty keen proving you can use performance enhancing drugs AND be super popular and have friends, but whatever! They’re the ones writing the comic!)
also, please I beg of you every company of the fucking planet, there are other brands besides TMNT!!! You guys are just gonna try and steal slices of the TMNT pie when NECA has left Gargoyles completely open?! Do folding wings and animated style and you’ll destroy them! Why be the fifteenth set of Turtles when you could be the second set of Gargoyles!
