Robo on this week's weekly news made a great comment that Hasbro is killing it with the 1/12 scale animals in the GI Joe Classified line, they should release a whole line of articulated animals.

I think it would be amazing because it could go with multiple other lines, even lines with stupid scales like McFarlane's DC because animals are different sizes in real life.

I would put some of these animals with Mythic Legions, Marvel Legends, GI Joe Classified, Storm Collectibles as background fodder. Lots of opportunities to use these.

There could be bigger figures like 1/12 scale Elephant or Giraffe. Make the bigger figures have a 1/12 scale figure be able to mount and ride them.

@ben It's a cool idea, though I think marketing would be tricky, and my guess is the margins wouldn't be enough to really warrant what Hasbro higher ups want out of their lines.

Course, i wouldn't say no to such a line, I'm just pretty sure we're sort of destined to piecemeal animal solutions through a bunch of smaller lines and companions figures packed in Hasbro main line stuff.

I'd love to see Hasbro do something akin to McFarlane's Raw 10 line, but with more articulation. That line, while it had the usual Todd-isms (sculpts that make articulation pointless, designs that are a little *too* overdone, and hiding the Spawn logo on every figures somewhere) was a cool concept, and I do still sort of want that cybershark as a repaint challenge.

I'd buy in, but I'm not sure how many others would.

I really want someone to do a 1/12 line of various dog and cat breeds. That'd be neat.

I'd be all in.  I'm buying every Joe figure with a critter so far, and I'm interested in the dude coming up with the warthog.  I'm already buying Mattel's Hammond Collection to get dinosaurs, and I buy 1:12 scale horses from whoever makes them.  Bought the Drizzt/panther 2-pack to get the panther too.

But I'm also not sure how much of a market there is for them.  Any way to get them made I'm fine with, so if I have to get a Joe figure that's going to end up in my HYDRA/SHIELD displays I'm there for it.

Count me as all-in, as well.

Sh**, I bought Herald Thor just for Huginn & Muninn (thankfully he was on sale, but he still wasn't THAT cheap, lol).

And I would much rather spend what Hasbro would charge for things like a horse, rhino, or bear, than the $100+ indie companies' ones, as nice as they are.

Do any of those actually exist besides a horse? Never seen them.

I mean... there's a 1/12 Rhino by some import company, Wild War -  you can buy it plain or armored up... it was like $90 without armor and $100 with

And then there's the upcoming bear mount by the 4 Horsemen in their next Mythic Legions wave of pre-orders that you can take the saddle off and just have as a big bear.

This as a standalone line from Hasbro would never fly.  Just wouldn't sell enough to warrant the cost.  Also, they'd need some kind of unique branding, which even though it would be an internal process it still costs money.  That said, I think they can just keep releasing articulated animals via the GI Joe brand.

GI Joe had the Adventure Team sub-branding in the 70s.   Since Classified is making Anniversary figures which are an homage to the military beginning of the brand (Soldier and Sailor/SEAL are just arriving now), I can see them continuing their Anniversary/homage figures to reference Adventure Team.   Adventure Team followed the original military start of the brand and ended up being even more successful.  Joes were traveling the globe and having environmental adventures.   Each set could have an Adventure Team Joe (with beard!) and an articulated animal.

Joe vs gorilla
Joe vs tiger
Joe vs octopus or shark (Torpedo reuse, orange wetsuit)
Arctic Joe vs bear  (Snow Job reuse)

With the Joe figures reusing bodies, the costs of the animals would be evened out a bit.

Instead of generic Adventure Team Joes, the sets could be named characters.  Maybe environmental variations of A-list characters.   Like Jungle Duke vs Gorilla.

@enigmaticclarity Panthercult mentioned the main ones, but also D20 studio released some dire wolf and dire wild boar mounts too, and the next one coming from them is a 1/12 scale griffin. If you start looking into import stuff you can find more I'm certain.

But yeah, the barrier with all of them is price point. You're looking at around $70-100 to start and it just goes up from there.

I love this idea so much and didn't realize how much I NEED it in my life.    I loved those sets as a kid (confession, my older brother had them, I didn't)   But if Hasbro did some of these they would be instant buys from me.   Day 1 pre-orders.

A wild follow up idea.  Hasbro markets their GIJoe Adventure Team animal sets to zoos and parks.  Get some retail sales via those giftshops.

Isn't there an upcoming GI Joe Classified figure that has a German Shepherd companion?

I for one would like some sort of articulated orangutan if for no other reason than to just have an orangutan that I can spend untold dollars to then build a diorama for...and then fill with other orangutans.

I'll put Indiana Jones in it somewhere, I swear.

Oh, and separately a toy poodle.  I think it'd be a fun accessory to put in various villains' arms.
