I suspect a big issue for any Disney line is the cost of the unique sculpts all the time.
yeah that's the price you gotta pay when you're not making Funko Pops, lol
there's tons of other stuff a company could do to ensure a Disney line runs long enough to get into all sorts of deep-cut characters. though it could mean a lot of Mickey figures and more stuff from the movies of the last three decades. or any necessary evils needed to keep the figures at a reasonable price point. which could just mean you end up making the exact same figures as Tomy (smaller scale, less articulation, fewer accessories, it is what it is).
I don't think a Disney line necessarily is a huge burden from a tooling perspective. Is it more tooling intensive than something like Power Rangers? Sure, but it's not really any different from TMNT, Simpsons, Animaniacs, etc. They just need to be creative with variants and pick some spots where they can reuse some parts. Plus some of the figures are so small in this line that they likely don't require a bunch of molds to get everything in production. And with the soft goods approach they've taken, it makes it easier to turn the present Mickey into a Brave Little Tailor Mickey, for example. With Disney, it just comes back to making a product that fans want and is worth the price. Super7 has failed to do that.
These look really nice. I think Power Rangers is becoming one of Super7's strongest lines.

I ended up getting a 4th hippo and Grimlock from BBTS before they decided to end the sale.
Grimlock is one huge box.

m'yeah and I'm gonna be real bummed out if the same thing happens with The Simpsons.
for what it's worth, I thought Super7 did a good job in the TMNT line with balancing the A-list characters with all the B, C, and D-listers. (I know the last two waves are mostly retools and variants of the main characters; don't know if that's bad news for the TMNT line or what)
I picked up the jumbo vinyl Pinocchio from Amazon for half off, and it arrived Saturday.
I knew what I was getting before I ordered him, but he still looks amazing, all be it limited.
I got the Scrooge super size figure via Amazon's sale prices as well and I think the figure is great, for what it is. It actually has more articulation than I expected, though everything is a swivel. I definitely don't think it's worth 300 bucks, but for half that I'm pretty content. I also happen to love Mickey's Christmas Carol so it has that going for it. No idea what I'm going to do with this after the holiday season passes though, and I don't know if I'd ever get another because of the space needed to display these things.
@misfit, I was looking at Scrooge before deciding on puppet boy, but I had the same dilemma you mentioned; where would he go after the holiday.
At least with Pinocchio, I'm not limited to a holiday display.
The box was beautiful, but so big, I had NO place I could store it, so it got recycled on Monday's trash pick up. I don't plan on reselling him, so no big loss there.
Nice. I'm hoping that eventually the jumbo vinyl Grover can be had for a similar price. My wife is a Grover fanatic and I would love to get it for her but she would murder me if I dropped $300 on Grover for her collection - even if she would love it.
I was very tempted by Pinocchio but wished he was maybe 3 or 4 inches taller... he is just a bit short to be "life-sized", which I know was not the intention per se.
Noticed that Robot Itchy and Scratchy are back in stock at BBTS for the sale, at 30% off this time, after supposedly selling out at 50% off. Still convinced this is Super7 dumping stock they had via BBTS. I am curious now if Super7 making things to order was never true and they significantly produced more than the pre-orders for every line? Or if there were a lot of pre-orders that were cancelled, and they worked out a deal with some retailers to return stock so as to kind of control the discounting?
@salemcrow I think Scrooge will just go in my bedroom, probably on my nightstand, when Christmas comes and goes. I know he's from a Christmas special, but he doesn't really look like a Christmas decoration otherwise so I'm fine having him out (Hell, I never put away my Christmas favorites anyway, just move them to my basement office after the holidays) all year round. Pinocchio is my absolute favorite Disney film so I was definitely tempted by that one too, but I love Donald Duck more and if I'm ever to get another one of these things, Donald is probably the only one I'd cave on. Though probably still not at 300 bucks. Unless it was Santa Donald from Toy Tinkers, then I'd probably be busting out the Fry meme in response.
It's always fun hearing people being enthusiastic about things I would've thought nobody was interested in.
"Who is this giant, nightshirt McDuck for?" I wondered.
And the answer is Misfit. It honestly puts a smile on my face.
I kind of hate that I bought that Scrooge at full price when it came out, but he's from the best Christmas movie ever and I couldn't risk missing out on him. I almost got Pinocchio from Amazon, but ending up seeing the Queen of Hearts for only $90 and I couldn't pass at that price. I love that movie and am very happy with the figure. I probably would have gotten Pinocchio too, but I don't want to go down that rabbit hole. I only have so much space in the Disney room.
Got the pre-order processing soon notice from BBTS for Disney Wave 3 (Queen and Ben Ali Gator).
I noticed Hasbro is advertising the Reaction/GI joe from Super7 on their social? i guess hasbro will not produce 1/18 Joe figures anymore.
