I think there are just a lot more original teen gohans than raditz so more people needed him.
My Gohan Beast arrived today. He's a bit of a mixed bag. He looks good, and I think all of the faces are done well, but I'm not liking this new overlay approach to the gi. The former plastic approach with the diaphragm joint was fine and worked well. This approach means we essentially lose the diaphragm joint and the range in the shoulders is more limited than it was with the Gohan Super Hero release. There are also little things with the engineering that I don't like. The biceps on my figure don't want to come off for utilizing the crossed arms piece, and since the butterfly joint is affixed via a ball peg, I'm loathe to force the issue as something in there could come apart and create more of a headache. I was unlikely to display him with the crossed arms pose, but it sucks whenever an accessory is rendered unusable. The beam canon piece is also not the greatest. It looks fine, though the hand attached to it is a slightly darker shade of skin tone than the rest of the figure due to them painting it onto acrylic. It snaps on really tight though as a result and when I removed it from the figure the whole wrist piece actually came off instead. The rear of the spiral piece also already snapped off of the inner beam. It's not a big deal as it also attaches at the end of the blast, but it is very fragile.
Mostly though, I think the trade-off of aesthetics over articulation in the torso is what I'm most bummed about. I want plus posing out of this line and I've never found the old way of doing the torso unattractive. Unfortunately, it looks like they took the same approach with Orange Piccolo, but at least I'll be prepared for that disappointment when it eventually arrives in a month or two.
I got the arms off just fine, but when I wanted to put them back on it was an incredibly frustrating experience. One arm popped back in just fine, but the other was so difficult. The peg just would not push far enough to lock in. Eventually I got it, but I had to maneuver the shoulder joints just right and apply an incredible amount of force.
I will not be trying to use the crossed arms again at any point.
Other than that I think he's pretty neat, just bad shoulder articulation.
Crossed arms work with the Ultimate Gohan figure too. On either body, it's difficult to reattach the jointed arms.
I don't know if this came out of no where or not, I certainly knew nothing about it, but BBTS has re-listed some of the 2021 event exclusives for pre-order today.
Nappa - $80 https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/175714?o=10
Whis - $60 https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/175712?o=10
Shenron - $160 https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/215607?o=10
Event Exclusive Figure Stands - $55 https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/175716?o=10
I have Nappa already and he's a great figure and I much prefer the anime colors of this release to the original. I definitely recommend that one. I'd love to have that Shenron as a centerpiece for my display, but just not at that price. These are to be delivered next month, so I'm thinking Bandai still had stock and is just unloading them.
I wish it were regular Nappa and Shenron. Not a fan of those gaudy repaints. Oddly, I much prefer the recent repainted Raditz.
Maybe Bandai can find some of that new 2023 exclusive Awakening Goku. That’s one I’m dying for.
I'm hoping Awakening Goku shows up @ Bandai's booth @ NYCC. I have a buddy going & he said he'd stop & grab me one if it's available.
Thiccolo has shipped
Got my Orange Piccolo today. He's stable, but the hip and waist joints are kinda loose. It's a cool figure though, I wish he had come with an effect part designed for him too.
I agree on the effect part. While I like having another Kamehameha effect, I’d prefer to get an effect part for the actual figure in the box.
The Consumed are up! These evil suckers are what I want! Once funded, is there an estimate for when they'll ship?
Was there any new reveals at TF for DBZ this year? We got first form Cell last year, I'd be disappointed if we don't get another version of him. They seem to be spending quite a bit of time doing every single version of Freeza.
I didn't see any. Maybe at New York Comic Con in two weeks. They'll almost certainly do more versions of Cell, it's just a matter of "when." Only thing that would seem to derail them a bit is if the rumors of the Dragon Ball Super anime returning soon are true as I would imagine they'll try to time a bunch of stuff with that.
Can we just turn this into the general SHF thread? Did Dragon Ball have its own thread in the past?
We don't have a general SHF thread yet.
Why not just make a general thread? I think there was only a general thread on the old board, but it was mostly dominated by the Dragon Ball stuff so I see why a dedicated Dragon Ball thread was created.
