That's good news, and good on them. I think I might grab the two pack for Egon and Boogieman if funds are OK at the time of their announcement. Boogieman is probably my favorite ghost design, though I do a love a big pumpkinhead. It's helpful that most lines that I collect are just about wrapped and I have definitive versions of nearly every character I care about. I think I only have three active preorders so far for 2025.
The lack of hands is a particular point for me, because they are probably the accessory that I use the most across my entire collection. They can really make a figure come alive. If you're reading, Mondo: throw in a bunch of gloved gesture hands with either Ray or Winston or both. Since the gloves are probably all the same color, you could use them on any buster.
I'd also pay for an accessory pack - some slug ghosts, clip on slime, alternative heads, hands... so long as it's not an extra $100.
I'm not sure if Mondo revealed their price point for their MOTU 1/12 figures, but that should pretty much tell us how much extra Hasbro is charging. I wonder—anyone know if Hasbro owns the Ghostbusters IP like they do DnD, or do they just currently hold an exclusive license that allows them to sub-license out? If they sub license, I suppose the fee is paying the original IP holder as well as Hasbro.
Halloween is going to be fun next year.
Good on them. This might pull me in. I still think they are way overpriced, but I'm in the enviable position of having disposable income.
@hopethisworks Hasbro does not own Ghostbusters. They have what is probably a master toy license that applies to everything Ghostbusters related. I doubt they're getting paid directly by Mondo for these toys, it's more likely there's a no compete provision in their licensing agreement that means similar products can't be sold in certain places and below a certain amount. That's just a guess though. There may also be some additional constraints on Mondo due to it being The Real Ghostbusters if one of the entities responsible for the show's creation retained some ownership of the character likenesses. We may know more when these come out and we can see just what entities are listed in the legal bits on the box. It's a similar situation to what we've seen with Playmates and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Companies like NECA and Super7 can't be stocked where they would compete with what Playmates is doing and they're limited in what gets approved and what doesn't. In that case though, we've seen some of those policies chipped away over the years and I'd chalk that up to Playmates not wanting to go toe-to-toe with an entity like Viacom over licensing disputes and Viacom recognizing the majority of non-Playmates figures are in no way competing with Playmates. Hasbro is probably on firmer ground with Ghostbusters being that they're a much bigger company.
Glad to hear it. It was quite a kick in the teeth to see that shipping charge after the initial blow of the MSRP in the first place. Also glad to hear the response has been bigger than they'd hoped, but I'm not gonna 100% take their word that that's what got us to this point and that the complaining about the shipping charge had nothing to do with it. 🙂
And now PayPal suddenly have me the option to Pay in 4 again, at least with a bank account. Yesterday, I tried to link a credit card and they said mine wouldn't work with Pi4 and took away the option entirely. So I ended up going ahead and ordering today.
Free shipping for a 1/6 scale figure to the UK, 46 dollars for this, must be coming in a helluva box! I haven’t ordered one as it’s overpriced tat but I just thought I’d check what the postage was.
Mondo has a $25 off $200 coupon right now that works on the Timed Edition - Hurry ;D
Looks like Mondo is running a promotion where you save 25 bucks on purchases over 200 which does apply to this set. Wish I would have know this was coming before I preordered last week...
I was going to get these anyway but as always I am a procrastinator just for reasons like this.
I'd really like to get the first set before the 2nd one's sale window ends to see if I feel these are work the huge $$ or not.
I don't think Venkman and Samhain are due until May or June so that's probably not going to happen. Egon solo will likely be available at other retailers with no upfront payment required, but yeah, if you want Boogeyman you'll have to take the risk up front. I'm probably good with just Egon.
Just Egon for me. There's really no major ghosts I really remember from the series all that well besides the Boogeyman, and he just creeped me out as a kid, so I'm fine with the 4 busters and MAYBE Janine. No need for Louis Tully in animated form or anyone else though. They could extend the line for me by having head/expression packs, but that's really all I'm looking for from these.
Not feeling real good about the fact that those promised details did not in fact materialize on Wednesday (yesterday). Fearing the tariffs are going to be messing with this as well.
