Yeah, I think I consider splonking for this set.
Y'know I was around in the '70s (born in 1972, so maybe still too young) and I have never seen 5 minutes of this show. But I've always loved the Eagle and this looks really great, though a bit pricey.
I'm also a little fearful of this statement when they're discussing the $329 early bird price, down from $399: Don't miss this opportunity to take advantage of the $70 savings which can help cover a considerable amount of the shipping charges.
How much is shipping going to be? This reads that it'll be more than $70. That needs to be made a little clearer, methinks.
I didn't watch the show - I think I tried but might have been a bit too young when it was on in the US (8 or so, and before Star Wars, BSG and Doctor Who made me into a sci-fantasy fan - like Trek before it, at the time it didn't quite hold my interest), but I remember the toy and thinking it would be cool to go with my Micronauts, but Santa never left it...
Anyway, some nostalgia for this but not enough to back it, even though it still has a cool "legit spaceship" look.
FYI, looks like the series is available on YouTube in HiDef - SPACE 1999 - All 48 Episodes in High Definition - YouTube
Thanks for posting that. Certainly wasn't expecting to see Martin Landau. Just kinda watched a few minutes worth and it was OK. I'll have to check more out later.
I went down a bit of a rabbit hole and watched a few episodes. Since not fully on topic I will put in spoiler tags to avoid...
Breakaway is the first episode, after that supposedly the episodes could be watched in any order but I looked around a bit and found a good recommendation to watch Earthbound and Black Sun next. Earthbound has Christopher Lee as a guest star and seems like a natural follow-up to the pilot, and Black Sun at least maybe, kinda explains how they end up so far away where there are plenty of advanced aliens.
On topic - the Eagle design really is pretty cool though and probably the best thing about the show. I will keep an eye on this and might talk myself into it...
@grumpymatt FYI, in the comments section of the Kickstarter they provide the approximate box dimensions, weight and zip code where it would come from if you want to estimate using a shipping calculator. For me it came to $65 ground or $95 priority for USPS.
Shipping Warehouse Location: Kentucky (zip code 41040)
Shipping Box Dimensions: L=33" x W=10" x H = 12"
