Lost the JT thread in the Great Rebooting, so here is the shitty new version.
Snagged the Iron Wrecker off Prime yday and am loving it with Koska Shand in the pilot seat. I'll graft over the pilot's gear tonight to get her fully customized.
I think JT have been killing it this year. My 40k shelves are flush, these days, and I just preordered the Vanguards, and I'm waiting for the Lion to show up. There have been a few figures I've picked up that have ended up feeling a bit meh (I was really excited for the heavy intercessors and for the Eradicators, but they were duds for me), but most have been excellent, especially the recent stuff. The bladeguard vet with relic shield is incredible, and the Ultramarine honor guard were a home run.
I'm glad I limited myself to Ultramarines and primarchs, or I'd be in trouble.
Some JT 40k products are part of Entertainment Earth’s outlet deal. Check it out.
Also want to say to those people casually interested that this line is worth checking out if you’re in the fence, especially at the discounts you can find if you shop around. Pick an intercessor in a color you like, you can probably find it online for around $30.
I have two Dark Angels (my army for 40k and Kill Team) and I love them. Glad Dark Angels are getting leaders now, I’ll probably pick up the Captain figure. Cant wait for the inevitable Deathwing Terminators to be announced .
I also have a box of some Phobos armor Ultramarines (Inceptors or Infiltrators, not Reivers) that I bought back right before they announced Dark Angels figures. Only opened one (I dont like the blueberries). Lmk if someone wants one or all, perhaps we can trade.
Been wanting this one for a good while but the difficulties of using their 24th stuff with 18th figures and its generally-around-$100 price has kept me away. Now that I know the newer SW ladies will fit in them and it's half off... FindingNemoSeagullsMINE.gif
BBTS have a couple JT items on sale, and it seems they're no longer forcing Sale items to be shipped immediately. I've already gotten the North SNARK mech last year and enjoy it, but I had to snag the Saluk Flame Dragon for the price that basically gets me the flycycle for free.
I pre-ordered some new Space Marines and "yearly army builders" last weekend. Look amazing.
I saw some new Acid Rain though and they may lure me back in. Gotta watch the budget.
Joytoy should get more chatter. I have bought several of their Warhammer products and Im always impressed. They are a little too expensive for the non-standard intercessor figures, but I only buy when stuff is on sale anyway.
I bought the Dark Angels Intercessors when they came out (back in mid 2023 I think) and was not disappointed, except for the torso on one figure pops out a little easier than I’d like. Recently picked up a Deathwing Terminator with standard and Deathwing Knight to go with them, and I really like the new metal connectors for the torso joints. I’d recommend anyone in the fence just pick up an Intercessor in a color you like. They are not much more expensive than the McF figures at retail, but this line is more expansive and has vehicles already
I have one of the not-Titanfall robots and pilots coming soon. Always been interested but this is my first purchase. I’ll let you know my thoughts when it t next week.
Can someone explain JoyToy's pricing structure to me? BBTS has some of their 40K figures listed at $25, others around $60, and a select few around $140. It says the $140 figures are actually 7". Is it a scale thing?
I don't know much about 40K, and I need a new line to collect like I need a hole in the head, but it'd be cool to have one space marine hanging out in my collection.
The more expensive figures are larger and likely have more intricate deco and parts. In Warhammer, the basic troops are the cheapest to buy (in reality and in-game). The more powerful the unit/character, the larger the cost (in reality and in-game). Even though technically the models may not be so much more elaborate, the real world pricing can reflect the in-game cost. Number of units manufactured probably is also factored into that tiered pricing. They're more likely to sell a higher number of basic troops as specialized characters, since you can only take a limited amount of the specialized units.
American sites are probably the worst (ie most expensive) place to buy Joytoy figures. I use Aliexpress or Gundamit. Both sites often offer free shipping as well as having a cheaper base price vs US retailers. And some stores, like Gundamit, also don't charge tax. Aliexpress does have periodic sales too. Individual stores have coupons and Alie will also have sitewide coupons tiered to your total purchase. So you can stack some coupons and get even better deals.
To add to what ashtalon said- warhammer models have historically ripped players off for the more specialized units, and so joytoy is just following that trend.
But seriously, it depends in which figures you mean the basic space marine troops (intercessors) are usually $40 or less, the slightly more expensive figures are sometimes bigger and bulkier (terminators, gravis armor marines). Alternatively, some of the $65-80 figures are just minor leaders for a chapter (color). The more expensive figures are the primarchs (main leader) of a chapter, and they are much taller in universe. The average space marine is like 8ft (the modern “primaris” ones), whereas the primarchs are like 12 ft tall
It's all kind of based on the tabletop aspect of the game. Leader characters are bigger and stand out on the battlefield and are easier to identify in a game. Bigger character. More points in the game. Higher costing model. They certainly aren't cost effective from a modeling aspect. And yeah, Joytoy has carried on that tiered pricing.
Personally, I'm not a fan of Primarchs being 12ft tall. Just seems so silly. And yes, much of Warhammer is tongue-in-cheek and silly. I just find the leaders being super tall to be too silly for my taste. Like each leader was essentially created/grown to be extra tall. Or do they somehow make really good soldiers extra tall after some great battles? I'm sure there's all kinds of lore, but I honestly don't care about the explanation. It's just too much for me. I was half considering Gulliman for my Joytoy Ultramarines during the last Aliexpress sale (he was down to ~$60-70 with coupon stacking), but I just don't like the uber-height aspect to the Primarchs.
The only Primarch is am seriously considering is Horus, as I feel he could fit in with my Chaos Space Marines. But he's not exactly affordable. Even worse than some of the other Primarchs.
Horus is the one I was looking at. I find the gold armor and red cape incredibly striking. I wish he came with a helmet, though.
The Primarch height doesn't matter as much to me. I'm primarily a 1/12 collector, so a 7" figure makes a lot more sense for me than a 4" figure.
I didn't realize these were technically imports, either. I'll try my luck at Gundamit.
Thanks!
Apparently this giant-ass carrier vehicle will be an actual product unlike all the cool vehicles the Hasbro Marvel team used to show off at Cons. One assumes it will be a modular item one can build to whatever size one can afford. I think I see three different units; the main wheeled drop-down ramp unit, the upper 'bridge' unit, and a connector unit between two ramp units. One assumes there will be more options if these sell well.
